Why the Fear of Changing Coaches? Really.

If we keep hitting reset, we will never establish anything. In order to rebuild, we have to stick with someone and let them slowly build. It's the only way we will get back to being a respected program. Every time you hire a new coach, you have to start over and take a step back from day 1. Idk if Riley is the answer, but I know that we can't know for sure after just 3 years. It took Dabo years to build up Clemson. Consistency breeds success in college football. Look at Texas. They have talent and they have coveted coaches but can't win because they don't give anyone long enough to build
I'd be able to accept this as a rational argument, whether I agreed with it or not, if we lost today to Minnesota or something.
BUT WE JUST LOST TO NORTHERN ILLINOIS AT HOME IN YEAR THREE. NORTHERN ILLINOIS, A MID MAJOR SCHOOL WITH SHITTY RECRUITING AND A LOSING RECORD LAST YEAR IN A CRAP CONFERENCE.

Slowly rebuild? With a 64 year old coach...then what, hand they keys off to Langsdorf? Sorry....if this was going to be a slow rebuild we picked the wrong guy. Hell, we picked the wrong guy regardless. Just another unbelievable F up by the athletic department.
It's that Eichorst that's the root of the problem. It really boiled down to that idiot Harvey Perlman. We need to get a new athletic director who will hire great football and basketball coaches.

That's why I said today is a dark day. If we don't put it together now and win the west even if we don't fire Riley the recruiting is on tenuous ground.

I'm on of the Riley supporters on this board, obnoxiously so. The point in my post is to say I am wavering.

I didn't watch the game, and evidently our defense did come together today, so that's a good sign I guess.

Why would a true Husker fan not watch the game?

We don't recruit like penn state. If you can instantly get top 10 recruiting classes, you can turn things around quick. That isn't reality at Nebraska.

Yep, Riley is older, doesn't mean he doesn't have 5-10 years left in him. That's enough time. Maybe he wouldn't stay long after getting us back if could get it done, but it would set things up for the future.

Yeah, today sucks. We looked terrible. It made me seriously doubt if Riley can get it done. But eventually we have to stop firing coaches and let them do something. If you want to fire Riley, fine. Go get Frost. But then Jesus Christ. Give him 10 years before we can him and look for someone new to bitch about. We are already on coach 4 in 20 years. It isn't working. Time to give someone a long term chance. Again, doesn't have to be Riley. But we can't fire Riley's replacement after 4 years. We already fired two 9 win per year coaches and now want to fire a highly respected long time coach. I have serious doubts about anyone wanting this job.

My high school daughter was in a varsity tennis tournament all day today. She won first place in her division, thanks for asking.

I did record it, but don't feel like watching it now. Does that make me less of a Husker fan?

I can give my thoughts. When the big money starting pouring into CFB, we watched other programs fill their pockets. We bargained with a weak hand and got what we asked for, little compared to others. So now other non-elite schools have been upgrading coaches and facilities with their new found wealth. Schools that we could beat out for recruits/coaches, maybe not so much anymore. Schools with way less football prestige bought in with tv money.

Callahan, I would call him a big name coach, a superbowl coach. Pelini and Riley, not so much. Problem is none of them are "good" coaches considering the big picture. We've spent our time losing during the time of tv money. The shine on our brand diminishing with each passing year. Can we get a big name coach here now? I don't know. We live in a low population base area, will a coach want to work harder at NU?

I'm not a Riley fan, I don't believe in his offensive system/his style of coaching. I swallowed my pride and asked for 7 measly wins. I didn't want him here "forever", just long enough to put a recruiting machine back together. Just long enough to find us staff coaches that aren't golf instructors. Riley wanted one last shot, maybe he wanted 20 years, my tolerance was more like 5 or 6 years. Just enough time to maybe put a little shine back on the brand, build some recruiting relationships, maybe develop a succession path, and then he could walk away into retirement.

I don't know what the rest of this year will look like for NU football. It doesn't look encouraging to me. From firing Solich after a 10 win season to now, it looks like we have made the absolute worst decisions, the decisions that would hurt us the most. And now here we are.
