In hindsight, it's easy to hate on Alberts for retaining Scott Frost. However if you look back to last season, it looked like we were about to turn a corner since all the losses were close.
A lot of Husker fans were extremely skeptical of us turning the corner. Frost has had a terrible 4 years prior to this year. Those that were expecting great things this year were fooling themselves. In hindsight, it's easy to hate on Alberts for retaining Scott Frost. The people that bitch about Trev are either UNO Wrestling fans or are simple-minded. He restructured Scotty’s buyout while giving him enough rope to hang himself. In hindsight, it's easy to hate on Alberts for retaining Scott Frost. Answer: The state of football and basketball. The buck stops with the AD for ensuring the health of all our sports. Not a good record so far but we'll see how this season plays out.In hindsight, it's easy to hate on Alberts for retaining Scott Frost. However if you look back to last season, it looked like we were about to turn a corner since all the losses were close.
The close losses last year led many to believe that Frost was on the verge of turning a corner. It's not looking like that came to pass but the season isn't over yet. We will see as the season progresses.A lot of Husker fans were extremely skeptical of us turning the corner. Frost has had a terrible 4 years prior to this year. Those that were expecting great things this year were fooling themselves.
it’s clear more than ever that Scott is at best a coordinator. He can’t put a staff together. So yeah, Trev screwed up. Screwed up badly. It’s on him, not Scott at this point. A blind man could see how poorly of a HC frost his. What kind of leader can’t? One that’s worried about $7.5MM? May very well lose $7.5MM elsewhere by keeping Scott
We were 1-9 against power 5 opponents last year - Trev loosened and removed the noose and tenderly escorted him off the gallowsThe people that bitch about Trev are either UNO Wrestling fans or are simple-minded. He restructured Scotty’s buyout while giving him enough rope to hang himself.
Oct 1, he’ll let Frost know that he gave him a chance and it didn’t work out. Then he can add, don’t let the door hit you in the ass!
You’re out of your mind if you believe he removed the noose. It’s still around his neck and will tighten up when we play OU.We were 1-9 against power 5 opponents last year - Trev loosened and removed the noose and tenderly escorted him off the gallows
Oh man, th4 Mav wrestling and football fans...you know...those super fans that never attended a Mav wrestling meet or Mav football game. The people that bitch about Trev are either UNO Wrestling fans or are simple-minded. He restructured Scotty’s buyout while giving him enough rope to hang himself.
Oct 1, he’ll let Frost know that he gave him a chance and it didn’t work out. Then he can add, don’t let the door hit you in the ass!
He did no such thing, Trev has bosses like anyone else. With the 15 million buyout Trev or any other AD doesn’t have the power buy himself to make a move.We were 1-9 against power 5 opponents last year - Trev loosened and removed the noose and tenderly escorted him off the gallows
I call somebody that wants to save the University $7.5 million as someone who is responsible - especially in today’s economic climate.A lot of Husker fans were extremely skeptical of us turning the corner. This nails it.I call somebody that wants to save the University $7.5 million as someone who is responsible - especially in today’s economic climate.
It also says a couple of other things:
Scott, here is a chance to prove that you can turn this around.
If Frost can’t turn it around, coaching prospects can see we provide reasonable accommodations for a coach to be successful here. Bottom line is you have to win. That is no different than any other P5 school.
The allure of former Osborne players is knowing that these guys played under one of the greatest ever and the “hope” that they understand the value of a great S&C program, the value of dominating lines on both sides, the value of discipline and attention to detail in every aspect of the game. Many hate any former Husker players to come back and lead in any capacity. I have no problems with Trev or not firing Frost ....yet.
Show me another school in the last 2 decades that brought back a coach with Frost’s record for a 5th year (3-9 and markedly worse in year 4 than in years 1 through 3)Bottom line is you have to win. That is no different than any other P5 school.
For the sake of $$$$..Show me another school in the last 2 decades that brought back a coach with Frost’s record for a 5th year (3-9 and markedly worse in year 4 than in years 1 through 3)
we brought back a coach who only won 1 game against power 5 opponents in year number 4 - so the bottom line is anything but winning
I get thatFor the sake of $$$$..
If you don't get it, you don't get it.I get that
the AD and his superiors made a business decision to bring back a coach that literally almost no other program - certainly not one that claims to be serious about winning - would retain
why in the world if I am a recruit would I consider Nebraska when the people making football decisions are going to remain when Frost is gone.
they sacrificed a year and the current players on the roster in order to decrease the buyout … how can you look a recruit and family in the eyes and claim the university is committed to winning
Believe me I get it … it would have been too expensive to halt the free fall and worry about winning and the current players in the program are just going to have to suck it up and endure yet another year of poor coaching and leadershipIf you don't get it, you don't get it.
Sounds like maybe you dont get it. New coaches were brought in, and what if there wasnt a good candidate for head coach? Rush the process so that we can hurry up and put ourselves in the same predicament 3 to 4 years from now, or dont rush it and do our best to be our best 3 to 4 years from now.Believe me I get it … it would have been too expensive to halt the free fall and worry about winning and the current players in the program are just going to have to suck it up and endure yet another year of poor coaching and leadership
Rush the process? We had 1 power 5 win midway through October on the heels of the worst previous 3 years in modern program history. We could have had a head start on almost every other program looking for a coach had we chosen to take advantage.Sounds like maybe you dont get it. New coaches were brought in, and what if there wasnt a good candidate for head coach? You seem to think finding a new head coach is as simple as ordering fast food at a Hardees drive-thru.Rush the process? We had 1 power 5 win midway through October on the heels of the worst previous 3 years in modern program history. We could have had a head start on almost every other program looking for a coach had we chosen to take advantage.
are you saying the leadership tried to get a new football coach last year and failed so they were left with retaining Frost? - - comfortingYou seem to think finding a new head coach is as simple as ordering fast food at a Hardees drive-thru.
If we botch the process like when Bo was fired and hire another Mike Riley, we sink even further down the toilet. Take the time to hire the right guy even if it means keeping Frost until then.Again - if the current football leadership is incapable of finding a suitable replacement after frosts 4th year 1 power 5 win season - such that they have to bring him back for year 5 - then why as a prospective recruit should I be interested
Again - it's a big boy decision with lots and lots of moving parts and consideration. Alberts time here will be decided on this fire / hire. If he didn't have a guy he felt good about, he shouldnt have pulled the trigger. In the meantime, work Frost over by getting him to take less and have it t-d up for bringing in someone at years end. This is simple. 95% of recruits would get it.Again - if the current football leadership is incapable of finding a suitable replacement after frosts 4th year 1 power 5 win season - such that they have to bring him back for year 5 - then why as a prospective recruit should I be interested
Another thing to get is if our coach wasn’t Scott Frost/former Husker QB/QB of last national championship team he wouldn’t be here still. He has been given generous leeway (many will say too generous) but if there is another losing season, then nobody can argue he should have been given more time.Believe me I get it … it would have been too expensive to halt the free fall and worry about winning and the current players in the program are just going to have to suck it up and endure yet another year of poor coaching and leadership
Plenty of portal players found quit a bit of interest..Again - if the current football leadership is incapable of finding a suitable replacement after frosts 4th year 1 power 5 win season - such that they have to bring him back for year 5 - then why as a prospective recruit should I be interested
Bingo unlike Eichorst.. ohh wait a minute he received great advice from Alvarez..Again - it's a big boy decision with lots and lots of moving parts and consideration. Alberts time here will be decided on this fire / hire. If he didn't have a guy he felt good about, he shouldnt have pulled the trigger. In the meantime, work Frost over by getting him to take less and have it t-d up for bringing in someone at years end. This is simple. 95% of recruits would get it.
He did the right thing for the reason you gave, and because there was no coach available that would have been a "home run "hire. In hindsight, it's easy to hate on Alberts for retaining Scott Frost. However, if you look back to last season, it looked like we were about to turn a corner since all the losses were close.
Trev has been on the job about 14 months, and walked into a mess with losing basketball and football programs. Both with costly coach buy outs. Fans just want to blame someone.Simple, when your job is at the center of the target you get shot at.
No matter who sits in the chair, they will be hated by some, and sometimes, by more than some.
Rush the process? We had 1 power 5 win midway through October on the heels of the worst previous 3 years in modern program history. We could have had a head start on almost every other program looking for a coach had we chosen to take advantage.
And yet he kept both of those losing coaches. The consequences of that decision is directly on him.Trev has been on the job about 14 months, and walked into a mess with losing basketball and football programs. Both with costly coach buy outs. Fans just want to blame someone.
