I would be ecstatic with Raiola, Kaelin, Purdy. In that scenario, maybe he doesn’t have a level to build to as you say, but I disagree. He knows what he wants, and that is the NFL. He has a level to build to with or without McCord.
I think we are a vastly improved team next year with McCord. I’m not sure about that for next year with Raiola/Kaelin.
And a Line Coach worth a darn. The job he’s done with the lack of talent is amazing.
I would be fine with any of those options IF we added a functional portal QB to your last option.
I'm good with grabbing another big O lineman. The reaction from the commits seems to be someone bigger though.
Raiola has proven his ability at multiple schools at the highest metro high school levels in new systems with new receivers every year. He’s about as sure of a thing as you can get. No doubt he’ll have to adjust to the speed and defensive camouflage but he’s a very bright kid.

We might win right away with McCord but longer term that doesn’t build a program like a recruits like Raiola and Kaelin can. Getting Raiola is huge.
Right there with you, hearing McCord and Fleming both went as well as it could but not finalized. We need someone to get this party started...

IF the Raiola thing actually happens, it will be interesting to see if there might be 1 or 2 other surprises on signing day of recruits following with him. We do know he was an active recruiter of others to Georgia.
Maybe wanna reword this after a second read… would you really be satisfied with McCord, Kaelin and Purdy and disappointed with Raiola, Kaelin and Purdy? Switching McCord for Raiola would be a disappointment?
Exactly. McCord would be a very nice pick up since it helps us immediately next year. But the Raiola/Kaelin are the prospects for the long haul. If we do not get McCord then next year will still be a bit dicey at QB, but the future will be bright.
I think you are going to get McCord, Raiola, Kaelin, Haarburg. Have heard Purdy is probably a grad transfer, but who knows at this point. Hopefully all this stuff comes out soon.
Given that option as a one time proposition when you lack the guy, absolutely. Running with portal QBs year after year as a strategic plan seems undesirable. No continuity. Expensive. Top tier portal QBs may be few and not interested in NU some years.
