I'm curious if we can produce any sort of consensus on the guys who were "the good ones" for purposes of the various discussions that are starting to pop up given the renewed primacy Coach Frost appears to be placing on the walk-on program.
For instance, I think everyone would agree that Spencer Long would qualify as the type of player that we'd love to get out of the walk-on program, and if we had multiple guys of his caliber starting each year, it'd be fine, even great. On the other hand, I think most would agree it was not a good thing that Dylan Utter ever started here. In between those poles, there are cases all along the spectrum. For instance, Chris Weber isn't at Long's level, but he's certainly not in the same boat as Utter. Arguments could likely be made on either side for him.
So here's what I'm hoping we can discuss: Since Osborne, who have been walk-ons that started at some point in their career and the fact that they started was a positive overall for their team? A "walk-on" for purposes of this discussion is someone who began without a scholarship. I suspect most, if not close to all, eventually became scholarship players before they graduated due to good play.
I'll offer a few safe ones to get us started:
Spencer Long (already mentioned)
Andy Janovich
Joel Mackovicka
