I was in my sixth grade Social Studies class. The teacher came in and didn't say anything and turned on the TV. Then she tried to example to a bunch of 11-12 year-old small town kids what was happening.
It was also school picture day, and obviously it was a terrible day for that. The photographers said right away that they would offer retakes to everyone at the school the following week.
I had a classmate who's aunt and uncle lives in Manhattan and she was so afraid, luckily they were okay. We continued to watch tv during the day and made different Americana crafts and hung them around the school and our town. It was a surreal day and I can still remember that whole day.
