What's the point of Special teams coach at about half a million a year and use a valuable schollie..

On a punter?????? Earn your keep man- surely he can train a walk-on or recruit a preferred walkon. Amright husker nation ?

First, haven't seen anything from special teams to justify that salary, so won't defend Bruce there.

That said, special teams are a huge part of the game and a great punter can be a huge weapon, just like a bad one is a huge liability. Homegrown high end punters are not a given and we have room (we've had lots of extra schollys over the last few years) so I don't have a problem with it. Ball explodes off his foot.

I remember our special teams being a lot worse a few years ago.
a lot worse, just horrid..

Lightbourn is a D1 scholarship punter. He has as superior athleticism and overall power. His dad was an Olympic high jumper for Jamaica. Lightbourn has a vertical leg swing and can drive a ball as well as anyone in the 2016 class. He can also kick off and kick FG but his greatest strength is his punting. He should continue to develop in the months and years to come. He is a special punter/kicker who had a big Scholarship Camp on FG, KO, and also did well in punting. Lightbourn has impressive natural talent.

Scholly punter is probably the least of this teams concerns. I could not possibly care less about that.

It's not 1975 anymore. A punter is a position you recruit like any other. Just like offensive linemen should be.

Or like in years past, we could just not use the scholarship at all. Save it for later.
