Is a point guard like USC had with Claude. He controlled the whole game on both ends of the floor. He was aggressive on offense and either made plays in the paint (or made perfect dishes) off. Worster is mediocre at best and while Sam can make some nice plays, he's not physical enough to force the action. Claude was the best player on the floor last night.

Below is something I posted in October, back when we were discussing what to expect from this season. I wish I had been wrong about NU not having any PGs, but sadly the position is even more thin than I thought at that time:
And we've got some point guards this year so that is always a plus!
Not so sure about that. I would say there's a lot of depth at the combo guard spot, and we just need to hope at least one of them can effectively run the point.

Not down on any of those guys - I just don't really see them as PGs.

I never thought I'd miss Lawrence this much. Looking at their stats I'm really surprised that their turnovers-assist ratio is similar (Worster actually slightly better), but Lawrences is shooting from 3 and the line WAY better. I'd trade both of our PG's for him right now.

I really liked Lawrence. I thought we should have tried harder to keep him. When Fred benched him last year, he moved Williams to point and Gary to the three. He could get away with that because Mast could knock down the three. Gary needs to be at the 4. With him chucking up threes is hurting the team. Lawrence could provide an outside shot and a defensive presence. We have no guard now that can do both those things.

We are lacking shooters, which is mind-boggling given that FH was one of the best pure shooters of his generation. How can he not get great shooters to come here with the message—‘I know how to get you to the pros?’..

Why aren't we playing Janowski this year? Shot 44% from 3 in HS. I see him warming up whenever I'm at a game and he looks physically ready to me. I get that it would be hard to get minutes from Williams, but unfortunately that guy is starting to look like an entitled pouter. He could've used some competition at the 2. I was hearing rumors that Janowski looked great in offseason scrimmages.

I have been wondering this, too. At the beginning of the year, when I noticed Worster and Ulis couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn I researched him and the 44% from 3pt jumped out at me. I do remember them saying he was struggling with his shot adjusting to the athleticism of the college game, but we need something. It is too late in the year, probably, but Rutgers is playing a freshman who didn’t play at all at the beginning of the year. Fred has to take a risk.

Along those same lines, why not play the other two redshirting. Meah is giving us absolutely nothing now. When he is in, we are literally playing with four on the offensive end. It’s just idiotic!

I don’t think many teams are redshirting players anymore. With the transfer portal and NIL, nobody sticks with a team anymore. Play them now if they can help.

Fred knew Worster and Ulis were horrible shooters, both their form and percentage. What the hell was he thinking?

Preaching to the choir man. Been saying this for a while. We need better backcourt play and better play at the wing position. And our perimeter defense blows chunks…

Move Williams to the 3 and Gary to the 4 where he belongs.

Any kind of elite skill player, coaching and recruiting.

And both have gotten worse with their stroke as Huskers. 9-45 combined from 3 this year, a stellar 20%
Teams are leaving them wide open. Daring them to shoot which clogs everything else up. Exactly what Fred doesn’t want. By the way, that’s what they’re doing with Gary, too. We’re so weak both offensively and defensively on the perimeter it isn’t even funny.

1 - Hoiberg, 2- essegian 3- Williams 4 - Gary/morgan 5 buyektuncel

I mean, I guess I’ll take a look at it and see if Sam can really run the point, protect the ball and initiate the offense. I’m skeptical, Rollie protects the ball better, can post up his defender and has some ability to take the ball to the rim. Their defense is pretty much a wash. Rollie is better at shutting down or frustrating scoring guards, he’s harder shoot over and get around. Sam applies more ball pressure and gets more steals. Sam is a better shooter than Rollie (low bar), but he’s not a great shooter by any stretch.

In the end, I just think Sam is an undersized 2. And he does a great job at what he’s asked to do… Defense, effort and hit some open shots. But if moving him to point sparks something and works I’m all for it. Right now, from my perspective, we’re lacking back court scoring and talent, and we’re lacking scoring, size and athleticism at the wing position. Not sure there’s a way to rearrange the deck chairs to get a much better result. Hope I’m wrong.

I’m all for Sam getting more minutes, but I’m not sure about him starting. I do like having Gary at the 4. He’s undersized there but that’s his natural position. Berke’s good at the 5. He can not guard anyone on the perimeter. Also, like fact Meah is not starting. Second biggest disappointment right after Griffiths. Meah starts but you never see the rest of the game.

I don’t think Hoiberg is the perfect point guard but he does seem to distribute the ball better, see passing lanes well, and plays more in rhythm. I feel like the offense runs better with him in. His basketball IQ helps the team. I agree though that we should have better.

We’re missing a Tominaga bad. He was not only someone who could take over the game with his 3 point shooting, but also take pressure off others while setting them up for points in the paint.

Best part of that USC game was the guy that made the putt at halftime I wonder if that was a golf ball or just a ball without dimples i can’t see how you can putt a dimpled golf ball on a slick basketball court and get it anywhere close

Now wait until he sees the tax and insurance bill. He will wish he had missed the putt.
