We all know Riley is going no where next year. What do you all feel is his "magic" win number? How many wins does he need to get next year for you to feel he deserves another year?
I think this year really sped up the process for MR. IF we could have got to that 6-6 or 7-5 mark I think next year he would be given a bit more slack.
So for me the number is 7 I think he needs to get at min 7 wins to stay safe, anything less and I think his future here really should be looked at

Nothing is going to happen as long as Eichorst is here. So it really is up to the new chancellor what the magic number is for next year, My guess is probably 6 to 7 wins, If we win 5 again I'd be shocked if Eichorst doesn't get the boot. If/When Eichorst is canned Trev Alberts will come in and can Riley's ass if he doesn't think he's up to snuff. After seeing what Trev has done at UNO there is no doubt in my mind he will hire the right person to get us back in the conversation for championships.

Is this something that is a real possibility or just wishful thinking? I would love Trev in here. Think that is exactly what this program needs.

Don't know if Trev would ever get a shot, very smart man who could probably do the job quite well. Don't know if he'd run things quite like a lot of fans would want, but if he ever gets the chance, we'll see what he can do.

less than 2 wins and he should be let go.. anything above that is just icing on the cake while MR takes a few years to develop a championship caliber team. also, he's keeping the players out of trouble and that is worth a lot...

I would say 8 wins (min), and no blow outs. thats one thing riley has done this year thats a real positive. I remember when bo would go full drama queen and the whole team would just tank.

with a years experience armstrong should be able to pick up a a few more w's in them last second games.

If you looked at the 2016 schedule a year ago, you'd have thought NU would be able to get 9-10 wins - especially in Riley's 2nd year.

Looking at it now, who knows? It's hard to be confident after the debacle we saw this season. Surely NU will be able to beat Illinois and Purdue at home next year - right? Minnesota and Maryland would seem to be winnable games....I hope. If you assume wins against Fresno St. and Wyoming to open the year, that gets you to 6 wins. You can't assume wins against NW, UW, Iowa, or even Indiana. Oregon and Ohio State are likely losses.

The program is just a mess right now. I guess some people saw this coming and warned us. I never thought they'd be right.

Wrong. Trev is killing it at UNO, without him Dean Blais never would have come to UNO, Baxter Arena never gets built and the Mavs would have never seen the success they are seeing in Hockey now.
Hockey? You serious Clark? If he didn't play here, you would be freaking out. Is he gonna kill wrestling when he gets here? Are sure there isn't another low-level school AD with Nebraska ties?

Isn't Trev also the one who brought them from D-II to D-I? If so, that's a pretty big accomplishment. Their men's hoops team almost beat both Minnesota and Colorado on the road recently. Hockey is killing it, and many of the other sports seem to be doing very well.
Moral victory bball team, and hockey. Yup, he should get the job. Then we can get Frost. It will be funny to see the same bloner excuses continue to pop up when they can't get it done. Then when they have a rough year you can't fire them.

Trev is also the tool that killed off UNO football and wrestling. Will never forgive him for the way he handles the wrestling program. I've got lots of personal attachment there.
I understood the getting rid of the mavericks, not sure why they got rid of grappling though..

did title x have something to do with it?

my attitude on title x is, unless a women team can support it's self (volleyball), they should just add blonde female cheerleaders to meet the title x quotas

Care to list Eichorst's accomplishments before he got here? Giving Al Golden a huge raise and extension? Nobody at Miami even knew who Eichorst was until he left. The only reason he got this job is because Barry Alvarez recommended him to Harvey. Which is also how we ended up with Mr. 5-7.

Wow. What were the accomplishments mentioned when HP hired Eichorst?

I suppose Eich will keep him if he gets 7 wins. I would fire him if he doesn't get 9.

Exactly I haven't see him ever be critical of Eichorst when there are many things to be critical of. Maybe he is trolling for Eichorst. Maybe 4.6.3 knows Eichorst or something. He seems to have the talking points for Eichorst down.

Good info. Didn't know he was in Eichorsts pocket.

We are not talking about Eichorst. Please try and keep up.

I am merely using the exact same talking points from the past couple years. Seems some can't handle it. Not my problem. Facts are facts.

UNO wanted to play in the NCAA tournament (Div1)by winning it's conference tournament that is why they joined the summit conference and there where no wrestling teams I believe in the conference. Anyway Wrestling doesn't pay the bills like Hocky and Basketball unless your Iowa.

Says the guy who always brings up "bloners" in every thread that has nothing to do with Bo.

I'm not saying we should hire Trev, but calling him a "glorified announcer" is pretty ignorant. He has brought UNO into Division I athletics, brought in tons of donations to build new facilities, balanced the budget every year, hired the best coach in college hockey. I'd take that over the glorified lawyer we have now that hid and ran away from Miami during an NCAA investigation.

The program is in better shape right now than it has been in a while. Callahan was a good coach, but not a head coach and he certainly wasn't interested in committing to the University to give the football team its best chance to win. Bo was a good coach, but not a head coach and he certainly wasn't interested in committing to the University to give the football team its best chance to win. Riley is a head coach, and he gives his assistants lots and lots of freedom. Is he a good head coach? We will find out. We are a suitable qb away from winning 10+ games a year. TA doesn't fit the system, and the pass D was not good, especially early, and yet we were a handful plays away from winning another 3 to 4 games minimum. IF he can get the right guys in here, we are going to be a force, even with Banker as D coordinator.

With a better QB and better time management earlier in the year and not the most penalized team in the country we would have had a 9 win season.

Six wins next year would show improvement for me. Would expect to see 8-9 wins by year 3 or Eichorst will be back to the drawing board. Eichorst is here as long as he chooses.

Yes. With a QB that is a fit, time management and penalties become less of an issue.

Is POB a suitable QB?

Even if he is/isn't/don't know yet, given our schedule next year, 10+ wins would be tough even for a all-B1G 3rd team QB. Just look at Michigans 5th year QB. Crazy talk.

Eichorst won't get to pick the next coach. We better get to 8 wins next year, or Mr. Eichorst will likely be looking for another job.
