What does "your circle" think of NU football right now?

I was going to post this in the Shatel thread because the topic came up a few times, but I thought it could be interesting on its own. Obviously RSS is a place for borderline obsessive NU fans, and the vibe here doesn't necessarily reflects the vibe out in the real world.

There are a lot of angles when you think about what "your circle" thinks, things like generations, expectations, coaching backgrounds, etc. I'm in my 20s and most of my friends are too, my parents are in their 50s, and I have a brother is a freshman at UNL right now. I'm admittedly not in any sort of circle that has extensive X's and O's knowledge or insider information about NU, but we're also not dorky 90s-loving #HuskerNation types either (I don't think). Anyway...

I can tell you for sure that my brother's generation, who are not even old enough to remember our last NC appearance in 01, are like sand through the fingertips of NU football. He and his friends were excited at the beginning of the year just to go check out the student section, and by now they barely care what time the game is on. Even if they grew up in big NU fan families like my brother did, it seems more and more like a semi-fun thing they missed out on and isn't worth the time and energy to decide to be a die-hard at this point.

My friends and I can remember the glory days, but not much. We got a taste of the high, but then for more than half our lives we have had basically the same exact season on repeat over and over with a few shitty dips in quality. After awhile you notice less and less Husker related conversations. There are only so many times you can say, "So what did you think of the game?" "*sigh* I don't know man about what I expected I guess." It's a strange feeling being one of the only people left in my group of friends who still obsessively follows the Huskers.

My dad and I have shared Husker football my entire life, he's been a giant fan since he was a little kid, and at this point even he doesn't really have anything to add anymore and he sure isn't out there planning on going to multiple games a year or anything. He still watches/listens to every game but doesn't really ride the wave anymore haha.

One thing literally everyone I talk to agrees on is that Mike Riley is a great human. But no one I talk to thinks he is building a great Husker program. And unlike the end of the Cally and Bo eras, it's just a sad slog because there's no villain or anything. Just another year of slowly but steadily creeping apathy.

What's the vibe wherever you are?
