Westy with a nice one handed grab at the Buc mini-camp

Great catch. On the downside, he failed to get any separation. But that route is not his strength. He is better suited to the short and intermediate passing game.

Yeah, hopefully that's not what it consistently takes for him to get a catch in practice for his sake.

He will play professional football somewhere (CFL or NFL) if he wants to.

I wouldn't take this as a negative for Westy. Cleveland is a better fit right now for him then TB is. TB's WR depth chart is actually pretty stacked right now. And their offense isn't built like NE. NE wants to move the chains and pick up first downs and they use a ton of WRs to do this. TB wants to pick up big chunks of yards. Evans & D Jax are deep threats. Then they drafted Goodwin, which is another deep threat guy. Plus they have guys like Josh Huff way down on the depth chart too. And they already have their Westy type in Humphries.

Cleveland doesn't have a proven "Westy type" yet and outside of Britt & Coleman, the WR core is a bit of an unknown. They have a ton of young guys that have been in the system for a year or 2 but none have really done anything worth mentioning with their time. I'd be really surprised if Westy doesn't sign with Cleveland. His game would translate nicely with Britt & Coleman.

So whats Westy lacking right now that NFL teams are passing him over?? We all know hes got the hands to grab anything thrown his way, even with CBs and Safetys draped all over him. But hes clearly missing something or he'd be signed somewhere, id think.

My guess is hes to slow maybe?? Or is it in the route running? Its definitely not the hands or work ethic, so its got to be speed or route running??

I've seen people say he would be a good fit at New England because of the success of guys like Welker, Edelman etc. Those guys also catch every ball that comes at them but they also are very explosive and good at getting space.

I know this is one video but he looked painfully slow and couldn't get any separation on what is probably another non-drafted free agent CB. I don't think all 32 teams have something against the kid, so I'm guessing it's his ability to get separation.

Iowa sucks.

My opinion is that we, as Nebraska fans, tend to overvalue the guys we like. If Jordan Westerkamp played his college ball at Illinois or Indiana, no one on this board would be surprised he wasn't drafted or having trouble getting an invite to mini-camp.

Fact is he is undersized and not very explosive. He does have exceptional catching ability. His acrobatic catches made him a fan favorite, but NFL teams value size and explosive over acrobatic.

I'm a huge Westy fan for what it's worth.
