the only thing about his previous two college stops that our head elf seems to be repeating here

Since Matt was a walk-on at PSU and likely didn't play any meaningful minutes when the game was on the line if he is just not cut out to think and perform in stress situations. Seems the longer the game goes, the tighter the game gets, the less he functions at an expected level of a HC in decision making.

I imagine the majority of HCs were either good players or star players in college, at whatever collegiate level they played, and had to learn how to think and perform under maximum stress. If you're riding the pine, you just never feel that stress because someone else is actually on the field.

But we've seen almost 2 years of questionable time and time-out management. He's an intelligent man, so there has to be a reason because most of the time, his decisions make no football sense.

Usually we're out of timeouts with 10 minutes to go and I think today we had 2 left when the game ended, and didn't think about using them that last drive.

time outs is holgerson's roll now, or white..

rules job is putting the coaches in place, landing recruits like terry, and dealing with the press.
he needs to re-evaluate the coaches that work for him.. I think he has to start with an identity, then hire and recruit to that, not flex the whole program around one single kid.. Frost did the same crap and got the same result.

Matt is not emotionally strong, and you can see that, which is troubling, because he is in a leadership position. I always thought this was a bad hire because I didn't think Matt could hold up to the pressure here. Coach is now often in full on panic mode, and that has to change first, because this affects his decision making.

DH helped the offense out a lot, and there wasn't much time to prepare. We could still get the next two wins, but Matt has to start by getting a handle on himself and act like a leader.

He has seemed very timid at his press conferences of late. Much more soft spoken, almost like he wants us to feel sorry for him. Like we, the fans are putting too much pressure on him.

Does not give you a real feel of confidence in his leadership.

At least he didn’t wet his pants

I could give two sh*ts about press conferences. Just don't be a jackass like Bo Pelini. I still think Rhule can right the ship at Nebraska but I'll definitely agree with you about the pressure. When Matt says things like "we have to go to a bowl game", I think he's echoing what the fans are demanding, but with each successive loss the pressure just goes up. Nebraska is a pressure pit. Traditional winner but perennial loser more recently. The fan base has put up with a lot is sick of it.

My comparison: Coaching football at NU in 2024 is like trying to date a girl who has had her heart broken by her last four boyfriends. One little mistake and she's ready to dump you. And you're like, WTF?

You recruit great players every year and treat the depth chart like an assembly line. Remove the dead weight of guys that can't cut it athletically and use the portal like the other aggressive programs do to bring in better players. Everyone should know that they can lose their job and the younger guys need to be given every opportunity to win it. And expect to win it. I have a hard time believing Kaelin or Haarberg wouldn't be on par with Raiola's performance the last month and a half. When Lateef gets here, give him the opportunity too.

I'm sure there will be some spring football competition at QB, but I'm guessing DK will wait to see if DR leaves or not, and if not, then he will be gone. I don't see DK as a viable option, but maybe someday he develops into somebody. Lateef is more interesting, but not sure when he will arrive.

Aren't they going to have to cut the number of guys in the football program even further?

No doubt you get the best you can get, but I'd still like to see an Offensive Identity, to which we recruit to.

I think this is called irony or hypocrisy. When folks without emotional strength say a coach that has resurrected two teams from the dead doesn’t have it. As far as I know this dude is nothing like Frost. Or have you heard stories about him getting banned from bars, poaching, coeds, etc.?

I'm talking about your 2024 Husker football team. You've seen this team play. Getting to a bowl game is a worthy goal. Beating Wisconsin, making it to a bowl, having a winning season. That would be a cause for celebration at this point. What goals do you think they should have? Don't say win the conference because I'm pretty sure they are mathematically eliminated at this point.

There should be a lot of goals, at many levels. Designed to motivate and recognize progress on all aspects. Allow each player and unit to gain confidence as they progress. Emphasize the process. Don’t put limits on what success looks like.

Not just one over-arching goal, with dependent variables that you can’t control, that everyone can see and feel is slipping away, and causes everyone to tense up at once

I'm fine with process goals if you're talking about the athletes themselves. You have an understanding of what goal setting should truly be about. With that said, there's a product goal that needs happen and that is make a bowl game and win it. Getting rid of the bowl-less streak and the losing season streak would be huge for these guys. What a relief it would be to change the off season narrative for once.

I should have said, but I agree that a bowl game should be on the list of goals. But we are seeing what happens when you focus on it too hard. In the last 14 games, we are 0-8 when a bowl game is on the line and 5-1 when it isn’t.

we blew the home feild advantage to get a bowl with Illinois & ucla, hopefully this will not be the case with wisconsin...
2 things..sat away from play calling, and no dancing after tackles.

good signs is martinez got rid of the ball faster, looks healthy, and talked about playing next year

I can't argue that. But this team in general plays its worst ball when it matters the most. I think our total yardage in overtime play is a net negative if you go back 5-6 years.

This team’s OT performance has been unbelievably bad. When USC went up by 8, I knew we would have no chance in OT so the game was already over.
