I haven't had a chance to check the stat line yet but I liked how we played. For all the negative Nancy's out there were went extremely vanilla especially on offense. The line got a nice push. Newby ran hard and Ozigbo looked the stud I knew he was. The receivers although limited made the plays when called upon. The defense played hard and fast. Again, we played it very close to the vest yet we didn't give up any big plays. Fresno State earned everything the got. I was very impressed on our closing speed on the ball especially on the outside. Special Teams played kind of like I thought they would. Losing Foltz is going to hurt especially in big games. On punt returns they were kicking high and short so that was going to be tough. In the end we played a team that gave everything to win and we took it and blew the out. We imposed our will and dominated in the end. Pretty good win for our first game.

I was fairly happy. I kept telling myself that we were the better team and it would show in the 2nd half. Take away the blocked punt and we wouldn't have been so antsy. I think peeps think we should score on every possession. We had a few 3rd and long and with Westy and DPE not 100% I'm going to give TA a pass. Between Newby, Ziggy and Tre we owned the ground and the TOP.

westercamp complained to the officials after they punted then surrounded the area where the punt came down and he couldn't get to the area, is that against the rules?

I think it is. You can't prevent the return man from fielding the punt.

Our offensive and defensive lines dominated.

I was never overly worried, but there were times last year where I thought we'd finally come around during a game(BYU, NW, Purdue, Illinois) so that stuck in the back of my mind.

That said, there's more positive things in this game than negatives. If NU is more re crisp this week I will be very encouraged.

Games all have to judged in context. We were playing a team at home who has six new coaches. If that isn't like starting over I don't know what is. They won 3 games last year.

Congratulations on being the first person that I know of to use the term vanilla. Tell me what that is? That simply is not true. We were running reverse plays, jet sweeps, counter plays, you name it. We didn't throw much which seems to have been the plan all along. I wasn't as impressed with the O line overall play as you were. We caught them in some dogs and they simply had no one to anchor the corners.

This is not to say we didn't play well. While one is playing the what if game - then what if they score a TD on their first possession where they missed a field goal and then get a late on when they threw the INT? I hate the what ifs but that is the game you want to play.

We definitely need to improve significantly going forward. I will see who well we "dominate" the fronts gong forward. One game doesn't tell us much.

Riley wasn't very please with the overall performance - so what does that tell you?

A reverse isn't rocket science. How you run a screen or different levels in the passing game is. You don't want to put that on film. We ran straight power most of the game. And I'm happy Riley wasn't all ice cream and lollypops after the game.

Every play Riley as ever run and TA has ever run are on film to watch. I assume you meant to say a reverse isn't rocket science. That was the advantage FS had coming in, they knew what MR teams and specifically TA had done in the past. That was not the case with their team since they had so many new coordinators. So a screen and a passing game is rocket science compared to the rest?? OK?????

I was at the game, so it is hard to really watch the o-line play closely. I am patiently waiting for a the game to be uploaded so I can take a closer look at them. The only thing I have been able to watch closely is the highlights. On the TDs that I watched, the o-line played really well. Hat on hat and good push. The TD's I watched didn't have anything to do with stunts or being out of position. It was just nice blocking.

I am eager to watch the game once I find it uploaded and take a closer look.

you and Glen Mason agree on this. He commented that our Oline was getting lots of stunts, slants and stuff thrown at them and handled it extremely well. Good stuff from him.
