It wasn't a particular player or coach, but it was the team as a whole. It was a team that played under control, yet still physical and with passion. A team that played for each other.
I thought that was clearly shown by the Freshmen that played. Starting with Raiola, but on to Shavers, Barney, McGahee, Sanders etc. It was shown by the 3rd and 4th string guys that started playing in the 3rd quarter. It was most evident when UTEP did some huge presnap shifts against our 2nd/3rd team guys, and they knew what to do, where to be, what their responsibility was and then they did it as physical as possible.
One helluva job by the coaches and players to have no breakdowns when there must have been 100+ players play in the game. We had 15 guys targeted in the passing games, 11 guys with a rushing attempt, played 3 OLs, and were at least 4 deep on some defensive positions.
Some folks aren't big on culture. But this is what it looks like. A team that plays together, plays physical, is prepared, knows what to do and plays to the standard that they have been practicing to and held to.
Great job by everyone involved and especially Coach Rhule for getting it there.
