We need some commits

We are at a #25 team ranking.. I don't think that is too bad at this point. If it were in the 30's, I'd be complaining. Curious where others think we will end up? I'd be real happy to see up get to around 15th or so. We always seem to get a bump at the end.
I totally agree

I don't understand why the same people who tell us "still a long way to February. Only matters until they sign." Are the same people that want verbal commitments in October?
Uh, because they are living in the reality of the present system? Earlier commit periods ( imo ) will help you begin to build the foundations of your class and focus. More importantly to a rising power like N; the haves like Ala and warm weather schools, will be less able to string pools of recruits along - If a player is not allowed to commit ; others will have a better shot at the commitment. In addition, recruits can better see the class they would be part of - A large group of talent came up with a new system; to benefit students and probably parity, I personally like it. But many like tradition for its sake: " we can't have a 4 team playoff, two works and we owe the bowls ( committee members and associated entities getting big bucks ) / we can't have an 8 team playoff, 4 works and what about the bowls ( seriously? the Alpo bowl? ) / there are never any upsets; the talking heads can tell us the winner in November; who cares if conferences or a major performer are not given a chance - we are assuring the SEC and especially Ala with a loss gets a shot at fulfilling our projections . Basketball evolved to what 64 teams, they must not have CLASS ?

How are people feeling about Gary Anderson and his coaching staff compared to Riley?

Most people including myself, although i would have liked Riley to stay, were pretty excited about the Anderson hire in the beginning. Seeing his work at Utah state and seemed to do well at Wisky.

But a lot of people are quickly changing and its not only because he is not doing well. Its His personality and the way he continues to get rid of or bury talented players on the depth chart until they transfer while complaining about the cupbords being bare.
Currently Oregon States QB situation is a mess. Anderson told Luke Del Rio he would never play at Oregon State. He transfered and is now the Starting QB at Florida

He Burried WR Richard Mullany on the depth chart. Mullany transfered and became a starter at Alabama(the SEC one not a directional school lol)

LB Rommel Mageo burried on depth chart. Transfered and starting at Ole Miss

That and the way he has handled other player situations is mind bogeling. But after reading more here and then reading more via Big10 info im not as suprised.

His first season he wasnt even competative in any league game. I understant its a new system but at least be competative. So far this season has been bad except for beating Cal. That is giving some fans a glimmer of hope but im not buying it. I wish i could be proven wrong but

IMO all the fans that were down on Riley before he left are going to see what he acvomplished ay Oregon State with the limited resources and Nike university 40 miles away was no easy feet.

This is what quite a few on this board have been slow to recognize. Most believe Riley can make us respectable again, but a handful assumed what he did at Oregon State will only be repeated here. Those same people, I believe, want us to win here at Nebraska, but are also going to be more than ready to say I told you so should the wheels fall off.

Hoping for the best for your team, but don't know if Anderson is the right guy...

Thanks for taking the time to respond!

So are Watts and Thomas it at DT? Are we in on someone better than Daniels?

Door not completely closed on Daniels, but would not be shocked to see him elsewhere. A lot will also depend on whether Watts decides to look around.

This staff isn't going to play, don't be suprised to see DE(s) visit NU since Porcher is taking a visit...whether he has a committable offer from Mich or not.

I think Thomas is a great get! At least from what I saw from his jr film. Gotta hit home runs on both offensive & defensive lines.

I think I am being counted in the handful I guess so I will respond - I felt and still feel that the talent disparity argument was not as great as people made it out to be. NU has and had better talent than OSU but not at the level that would lead to the leap of a coach who in the last 5 years or so was a .500% coach to a coach who was winning the Big10. I honestly thought Riley would recruit better and he has and is but we are never going to out recruit OSU or MI so hanging our hat soley on talent is false hope- I thought our offense would do fine and overall it is. I thought our defense under Banker would struggle and it has although it is improved this year overall it has. I prayed he would not bring Read but he did

I think the group you are talking about thought Riley would win more games here than OSU but this coaching move is not about winning more games than Oregon State it was about hiring a coach that can win conference titles. I still do not believe we will field a good enough defense to do that, I think we have a shot at having a championship offense but whether that is enough to win titles only time will tell. No -one wants the wheels to fall off we are all Husker fans here that myth is being put forward by a few on this board it is not reality. There is however disagreement on whether Riley can win at a high level and I think both sides have a valid argument on this

Are you saying the Huskers have the same level of talent as OSU? In my opinion, we are well behind overall.

I agree, everyone wants a winning team. No one wants us to lose... But if we do, the I told you so crowd will be out in full force. That was what I was saying.

As far as winning, I think the argument from many was he won .500 of his games at Oregon State and will do the same here. That is where I got the most migraines... Is he a championship winning coach? We will see. But he will definitely win more than .500 of his games here, in my opinion. I wouldn't have been so upset if people would have questioned is he the coach that will bring us to the promised land... The jury is still out. But when posters like WiscoHusker (who seems absent) and Wasker77 and others proclaimed that he wouldn't be better than just over .500 here, well, I disagreed then, and I still disagree now.

most certainly he will win here more than at Oregon State - to think the two programs are equal is not logical or correct

Which I agree with... my comment, incidentally, wasn't for you... I have a lot of respect for you even though we may differ from time to time.

But there were posters (maybe trolls, I don't know...) who were very emphatic that Riley's record at Oregon State were indicative of what we could expect here.

When HCMR was initially hired, I bought into some of the negative hype. I will give you that last year was rough to be a Husker fan. I couldn't be happier at this point with how this staff has, embraced the fans and tradition, bring in high caliber recruits for visits, which is the first thing you have to do before you will get them, and most importantly, got rid of the volatility that was present. He may not be the man to lead us to Championships, but we are going to be in a better place to hire that coach when he is done, in my opinion.

why did I have the impression rankings are based on the top 20 recruits. could be wrong but if that is the case Alabama would have a higher average.

The biggest battle of recruiting is keeping players that have committed around for a 4-5 year period, develop them and coach them up. Developing players into top tier talent and building quality depth is the end result of getting good commits. It's all about the process, man!:D
