If not, has a reason been given?

More and more programs are bringing in serious roster building talent & football expertise at this new position.

is that guy really our GM?

@HUSKERBILL what qualifies our guy better than being the Scouting Director for the #1 seed in the NFC?

he looks like he won the job via a Matt Rhule lookalike contest.
Came to bitch about Rhule not having one, then fumbles the shifted Rhule bitch about the one in place before ND hired one.

Martin was not the Lions Scouting Director.

would you like a do over on this nonsensical sentence?

has our GM done something in his past or even current tenure we should be excited about?

like helping build the NFC's top seed, for example.

I'd never heard of him before today.

the primary objective of a GM is roster construction and management, correct?

Candidate A was hired for every one of those jobs by the same person, and they're all useless bureaucratic admin jobs

Candidate B seems to both have experience in roster construction and the ability to earn offers from a wide array of organizations based on performance

Lol, a GM in College Football does not do the same thing as GM at the Pro level. GM's in college are at the Beckon Call of the Head Coach. A College GM's role is strictly Adminstrative. They are going to be responsible for the budget, coordinating Logistics, managing all the Support staff, and they will have some oversight into NIL revenue sharing going forward.

The GM isn't calling the shots about the choice of players or roster development. That's still up to Rhule and his staff. Now, Dr. Elza and Padden do handle some work "vetting" players. Rhule and staff might say, "we like this athlete and think his talent is sufficient." The GM and staff will then contact former coaches, teachers, even janitors to find out if the player is an asshole or a good fit.

Nebraska already has a scouting staff led by Jamar Mozee. He has a pretty extensive network nationwide. His group will identify a player. Rhule and the staff will then determine if they want to recruit the kid. The GM team doesn't really hop on board until after an offer is made and they are ready to talk money.

time to call it quits on this one. JMO.

in this case, hiring a useless administrator (or two) would appear makes sense

thanks

No. General Manager will typically provide oversight of the program as an adjunct to the head coach. It is 10000% an administrative role.

I am an executive for a women’s healthcare company in the med device and biologic space. I don’t know what you do for a living.

But how can you not see the difference in the two resumes.

Furthermore, you realize that nepotism exists in the Notre Dame example. Mike worked with the Notre Dame head of Scouting when they were with the Texans. That’s how he was made aware of the position and got it.

That's 100% really him. I read an article that says one of the things he does is help Rhule with game management planning. I'd fire him based on that alone. Kidding..... maybe.

How does that equate to “nepotism”? Someone worked alongside someone in the past equals “nepotism”? That likely applies to the majority of positions within most college athletic departments through at least the first and second tier of positions.

I can see the difference

one guy does paperwork, the other evaluates talent

He did a pretty lengthy press conference last may. Surprised you were unaware he existed.

lol, #1 seed… what have they won? I don’t care about their seed. Show me the trophy. Or something like that.

Please tell me if I didn’t do it right.

Per our GM's first answer in his May, 2024 press conference:

"All of our recruiting apparatus rolls up through me. All things associated with recruiting runs up to me."

"Additionally, I am our main liaison to our collective."

So, as usual, this post seems dead wrong.

he also runs the scout team, per himself.

lots of player development/talent eval responsibility for a career paper pusher.

Fake fan?
there appears to have been 1 single thread about our GM on this board

it garnered exactly zero replies

this also appears to be the first time his presser has been posted on this board.

guessing this will be news to more than just me, a lifelong diehard and proud UNL alum.

I wonder what happens if we have a good year next year. Does Kong get a new screen name? disappear? Or just complain that the price of runzas went up 10% because of a cattle tariff and it’s all Matt‘s fault?

I heard runza and Val’s are OUT at memorial stadium

I hope we go 16-0 every year. I know this runs counter to your narrative.

Very tough to climb out of this one my man…especially when you said candidate B has experience in roster construction.
