Nebraska senior Alexis Markowski became the first Husker women's basketball player in history to win four first- or second-team all-conference honors, and Britt Prince became the most recent Husker to earn Big Ten All-Freshman honors while adding honorable-mention All-Big Ten accolades when the league announced its annual awards on Tuesday, March 4.
Markowski, a 6-3 center out of Lincoln Pius X High School, captured first-team All-Big Ten honors from the conference media for the second consecutive season after averaging team bests of 16.8 points and 8.1 rebounds on the season. Markowski capped her fourth regular season as a Husker with 30 points and eight rebounds in Sunday's road win at Northwestern. Her performance in Evanston followed a mammoth 35-point, 15-rebound effort to power Nebraska to an overtime win over Oregon (Feb. 19).
Over the final seven games of the regular season, Markowski averaged 24.0 points and 9.8 rebounds to lead the Huskers to a 19-10 overall record and a 10-8 Big Ten mark. She finished 10th in the Big Ten in both scoring and rebounding to earn a spot on the media's 11-player first team.
Markowski also earned second-team All-Big Ten honors from the conference coaches for the third time in her career. Only two players in Husker history - Emily Cady (Big Ten, 2012-15) and Meggan Yedsena (Big Eight, 1991-94) - previously earned four all-conference honors (honorable mention, third team, second team or first team), but neither Cady nor Yedsena earned first-team accolades and both were honorable mention at least once in their impressive careers.
Markowski, who was a member of the Big Ten All-Tournament Team a year ago after averaging 16.5 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists over four games in leading the Big Red to the Big Ten Championship Game, will lead the No. 10 seed Huskers against No. 15 seed Rutgers in the first round of the conference tournament at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Wednesday at approximately 5 p.m. (CT).
Prince, the two-time Nebraska High School Player of the Year out of Elkhorn North High School, became the fourth Husker in the past four seasons to earn one of five spots on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. The 5-11 point guard averaged 13.0 points and 4.4 rebounds while leading Nebraska with 3.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game over 26 regular-season starts. Prince earned Big Ten All-Freshman honors from both the coaches and the media.
She joins current teammates Alexis Markowski (2022), Natalie Potts (2024) and Logan Nissley (2024) as recent members of the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. Prince added honorable-mention All-Big Ten accolades from both the league coaches and media for her impressive performances throughout the season, which included 22 points, seven rebounds, five assists and a career-high six steals in an overtime road win at Iowa that earned her Big Ten (Jan. 20) and USBWA National Freshman-of-the-Week honors (Jan. 21).
Prince added a career-high 24 points in a road win at Rutgers (Jan. 12) and 23 points in another Big Ten road win at Purdue (Jan. 30). She also contributed 13 points and a career-high eight assists in a Husker upset of No. 17 Maryland (Feb. 13). Prince closed the regular season with 15 points and six assists in Nebraska's road win at Northwestern (March 2). Overall, she scored in double figures 19 times during the regular season.
In addition to the honors for Markowski and Prince, Callin Hake was named Nebraska's recipient of the 2025 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. Hake, a 5-8 junior guard from Victoria, Minn., started 26 games and averaged 6.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals for the Big Red. The 2024 CSC Academic All-District VII selection claimed Academic All-Big Ten honors a year ago. The five-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection is also a two-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. She is the 2024-25 President of the Nebraska Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and earned a prestigious Sam Foltz 27 Hero Leadership Award in 2024.
