Meanwhile, the academic status of four-star cornerback Elijah Blades, also a member of Nebraska's 2017 class, remains uncertain. He has yet to report to the NU campus.

The lone defensive back in the class, Blades told the Journal Star in May he fully expects to join the team at some point this summer.

Blades drew a No. 48 national overall ranking from 247Sports, two spots better than incoming Husker freshman receiver Tyjon Lindsey.

College Football Gods...

Can you cut Nebraska a little slack the next few months with the football roster concerning injuries and eligibility?

Jones, possibly Blades, and now Watts

Thanks

Watts was not unexpected.

Looks like the coaches are great judges of talent but lack the charachter judging part. However, I do with the NCAA woukd figure out a way to make it easier for kids with grade problems to play at the higher.

Blades is still the bigger loss here...I feel real good about Damon Daniels and Deontre Thomas any how.

Fire Parrella. He has had more than enough time.

Also Keyshaun Johnson Jr guy

Damn. Hopefully he'll be in Lincoln in the future. Some good news on blades would be very welcomed. He would get major clock this year IMO.

So...an already small class, gets even smaller. If Blades doesn't make it, that would take us down to a class of 17. Sigh..

only 17 but 17 really good guys. Watts and Blades were worth the academic risk and only Blades had any chance (very small) of playing this year. Need to hit the DBs hard this next cycle.

So do they hold those schollies or do they use them tiwards the 18 class? Who knows if they will ever make it here or if they still want to in a year or 2.

Im not a recruiting rules and schollie guy so please excuse my ignorance in this matter.

Since we seem to be ok with taking long shots, maybe we'll re-recruit Bubba Starling. He'd only be about 30 as a fifth year senior.

Yeah I know, but in a program that's currently devoid of depth, these 2 not making it smarts pretty bad. :(

Terrible parenting.

2 young men with opportunities some will never have and they throw it down the drain.

And you assume there are parents even involved. I remember talking to Ron Brown when he was recruiting Berringer and he said many times these kids are living with coaches and relatives with no parents in the picture.

Id also like to know if we can use these scollies this years class? I would assume so, right?

Huge bummer, lots of talent from this class never made it or already left. Hoping for the best but with KJJ as well would be shocked if we go 3 for 3 in getting these kids back, it just never seems to work out like that. And yeah maybe Blades wouldn't have played this year but it screws up the class distribution at that position even more not to mention it's highly unlikely we will fill that schollie with a kid that good.

So the loss of Blades, KJ, and Watts puts the class ranking at what? Approximately 40th?

I believe 41st.
Ehhhh...other teams probably have some folks that didn't make it to campus either. That recruiting class wasn't as awesome as a few made it out to be a few months ago nor as bad as some are making it out to be now. If we have a staff who can coach them up, we should be fine.
