I have never re watched this game until tonight on BTN. The complete lack of effort on defense is absolutely stunning! Even when Nebraska had their best teams, I never saw a single game where another team laid down so openly against us. On many plays in the 2nd half, our LBs literally stepped out of the way and let the ball carrier run by.
Problem is that some of these players (Bando and Gerry), who are still with us, seemed to be two of the biggest offenders. Maybe the new coaching makes a difference, but there's just something about kids who are getting all of their college paid for not giving great effort, regardless of who the coaches are. Givens Price played much of the 2nd half, a guy who was relegated to the scout team as a senior.
