As I stated in another thread, I love looking at old pictures of places I know well, seeing the changes as well as identifying things that are still around. So that led me down an internet rabbit hole looking at vintage pictures of Lincoln and UNL. I thought I'd share a few.

1876: Looking to the north down 11th street, leading to University Hall. Today this view would show you the west edge of the Kimball Hall and the Lied Center. To the left of the photographer would be Embassy Suites, to the right, Misty's.

Jan. 31, 1893:
University Hall, the original home of UNL. Built in 1870-71 and torn down in 1948. Ferguson Hall was built in its place, and in 2010 it too was torn down. There is now a memorial marker to University Hall where the building once stood, east of Brace Laboratory and just northwest of Nelle Woods Art building.

1906: The University Library, now Architecture Hall, looking to the southwest. Both buildings pictured (on maybe they're one connected building) still stand.

1906: Campus view from near 12th and R, looking northwest. University Hall, with the flag on top, in the center. The building on the right, with the pyramid steeple, was Pharmacy Hall. The Sheldon Museum of Art now stands there. The building on the left was the administration building.

September 1912: Another view of the Administration building, also seen in the picture directly above. The Sheldon Art Gallery sculpture garden now occupies this space. Built in 1906, torn down in 1963.

May 1914: The UNL Library, now Architecture Hall.

1920's: Aerial view of campus (and the North Bottoms!) with Memorial Stadium, Coliseum, Bessey Hall, etc. Note how close campus was to the edge of town! Pretty sure that white church in the upper right corner is still there. (Just checked Google Earth. It is.)

January 1941: Fans gathering in the Haymarket on 8th Street to welcome home the Huskers from the 1941 Rose Bowl. The Grainger Building is still there, now turned to apartments.

Sept. 26, 1946: First day of classes, looking at 13th and R, with Love Library cupula in background and part of what is (now the old) CBA. (Note the same building with columns in the 1920's picture above.)

Sept. 26, 1966:

Oct. 15, 1966: Memorial Stadium during halftime with the old Schulte Fieldhouse.

Nov. 17, 1996: Finally, a picture I could have been in. Broyhill Fountain on the north side of the Student Union. It would be demolished just a year or two later to make way for the Union expansion.
