Very important game this weekend

Puzzling to me is the notion that Nebraska doesn't have a defense. You act as if we are getting 408 yards or 70 points put on us by nobodies weekly. The defense has skyrocketed in recent weeks in key defensive metrics.

My last minute prediction: in the second half Nebraska will line up in the I and run an option on 3&1 or 2. It's become a tendency to give it Jano in that situation. The fullback give was always the compliment play to the option. The inverse should be true. I like Hank's defense, but it's very aggressive and would likely crash the middle hard. Execute well and it could go for six. (Granted, same could be said of any play.)

The only part with Coach Riley that has me worried at all is that this reminda me of the Callahan run, he gave us a solid offense and probably the best recruiting we ever had but we had NO DEFENSE and for the life of me, wouldn't hire a good defensive co to save his tail. Thats all he needed and im confident he would still be here, well assuming he didn't bail for the first big time NFL offer he got. With his recruiting and offense he had, all he needed was a good defense co and would of killed it. My point is, i pray that Riley can recruit some where near that level and the main part, hire a different defensive Co if Banker doesn't show progress in the next few years.

That's a lot of wishing. Riley came here instead of getting rid of Banker at Oregon State like their AD asked him to. Riley is who Riley has always been. A .600 coach on a downward cycle who makes odd decisions.

Translation "If we don't play exactly like I think we should, I will be back to trash the staff and say I told you so"
And pray tell...what would be the appropriate response to a loss to the mighty Purdue Boilermakers?

I suppose I would call myself one of the run first guys. But, I think that's mostly because we're completing 55% of our passes and our rushing ypc is over 5 yds. If we were leading the country in passing stats, I wouldn't care if we were a pass first team.

If we're playing a team that had a top 10 rush defense but was ranked 126th in pass defense, I would say we should throw the ball more. It is situational.

Now onto Northwestern. We lost 4 games early that hurt our margin of error now to have a "respectable" season. They've only scored more than 20 points in 3 of 7 games, Ball state, Eastern Illinois, and Minny. They've been blown out in their last two games (Michigan, Iowa) against run first offenses.

Northwestern should be an easy win for us.

Yep. That was easy.

Only one way that NW will win this game - ball control. The way they beat Stanford was by moving the chains. No big play offense here - just keep the other team's offense off the field. 3-5 yds per run and little dink passes, chew up clock and shorten the game. We need to be strong on defense and get a lot of 3 & outs and wear them out with our offense. If we get a couple of quick scores, they could fold early after 2 straight blow-outs. The longer we leave them in the game, the more dangerous they become.

You guys dominated the TOP, but we seemed to get stronger in the 4th quarter. Little 3-5 runs work when you mix them in with 60 and 50 yard scrambles.
