Puzzling to me is the notion that Nebraska doesn't have a defense. You act as if we are getting 408 yards or 70 points put on us by nobodies weekly. The defense has skyrocketed in recent weeks in key defensive metrics.
The only part with Coach Riley that has me worried at all is that this reminda me of the Callahan run, he gave us a solid offense and probably the best recruiting we ever had but we had NO DEFENSE and for the life of me, wouldn't hire a good defensive co to save his tail. Thats all he needed and im confident he would still be here, well assuming he didn't bail for the first big time NFL offer he got. With his recruiting and offense he had, all he needed was a good defense co and would of killed it. My point is, i pray that Riley can recruit some where near that level and the main part, hire a different defensive Co if Banker doesn't show progress in the next few years.
And pray tell...what would be the appropriate response to a loss to the mighty Purdue Boilermakers?Translation "If we don't play exactly like I think we should, I will be back to trash the staff and say I told you so"
This will be an easy win for Nebraska. Nebraska matches up favorably to NW. Will likely be a bigger blowout than it was last week.
I haven't seen NW play and even though I'm optimistic, I'm not nearly this optimistic. This gives me some confidence!
I suppose I would call myself one of the run first guys. But, I think that's mostly because we're completing 55% of our passes and our rushing ypc is over 5 yds. If we were leading the country in passing stats, I wouldn't care if we were a pass first team.
If we're playing a team that had a top 10 rush defense but was ranked 126th in pass defense, I would say we should throw the ball more. It is situational.
Now onto Northwestern. We lost 4 games early that hurt our margin of error now to have a "respectable" season. They've only scored more than 20 points in 3 of 7 games, Ball state, Eastern Illinois, and Minny. They've been blown out in their last two games (Michigan, Iowa) against run first offenses.
Northwestern should be an easy win for us.
Only one way that NW will win this game - ball control. The way they beat Stanford was by moving the chains. No big play offense here - just keep the other team's offense off the field. 3-5 yds per run and little dink passes, chew up clock and shorten the game. We need to be strong on defense and get a lot of 3 & outs and wear them out with our offense. If we get a couple of quick scores, they could fold early after 2 straight blow-outs. The longer we leave them in the game, the more dangerous they become.
Doesn't stop you from going to a NW board begging NW to beat Nebraska. As if they have anything to do with the outcome. How sad..........the obsession is real.
