Upcoming walk on’s

If it's short term impact, I would go with Moses Bryant since he's so versatile. It's hard to say where he'll settle in position wise, but he could see the field on special teams, play some Duck R or maybe find time in the secondary.

Long term, I like the chances of AJ Forbes playing in the interior of the offensive line possibly even starting down the road.

Love the picks. With the new redshirt rules it will be real interesting to see how Coach uses them. A lot of playing time to see what the youngsters can do before deciding redshirt can’t wait. About time the NCAA got something rite.

I believe tHe impact of that new rule will be minimal at Nebraska. Winning games is too important and there simply won’t be enough blowouts to get 3rd and 4th teamers enough reps. If a true freshman is good enough to be getting snaps with 1st or 2nd team in August and September they won’t be redshirting. By the end of the season, if a true freshman has caught up to another player to the point they will be taking snaps away from that player, the progress will have been seen long before the first week in November and the better player will be playing.

The only games I could see a true freshman playing, just to see what he has, would be Illinois and Bowl game and maybe Akron....maybe.

If walk on true freshmen are playing early, we won’t be needing to worry about bowl games or winning more than 3 or 4 games.

The rule will help out kids though. In the case of Bo Pelini, players wouldn't redshirt, but the staff was so wary of getting berated by Bo if they put a sub in and they made a mistake that soon enough the assistant coaches were reluctant to do any subbing. Too many guys wasn't a year of eligibility. Then there are the cases where a guy could be asked to burn a redshirt-- now that's not such a tough thing to ask a kid to do.

But I agree with you, we won't be having a lot of blowouts any time soon. I think schools that don't have the walk on program we do and have been forced to play some freshman even when they are not ready, those school will benefit more from the rule change.

I think the rule can benefit kids. I just don’t think it will be as big of a deal as we think.

My guess is that you will see the largest impact on true freshmen that get injured early in the season. The new rule will allow them to keep the year where in the past it is wasted. It will also effect teams that are bad teams, where if the season goes down hill early, they can get a look at their young guys in a game and still keep them 4 more years.
