The miserable season and firing of Coach Riley and his assistants has taken all that we thought to be true about Nebraska recruiting and turned it on its head.
We were introduced to, received commitments from, had flirtations with and held out hope for many 3, 4 and 5 star players at various positions. From the Spring Game to FLN and everything in between, all of that familiarity and certainty about recruits vanished and many of us -- including me -- started to write off this recruiting class as the price we pay for change.
I'm still feeling like Bookie, Goodrich, Moore and others are major losses for us and I wish we could get them back under the tent. But instead of the program struggling to find new recruits, there's major momentum and opportunity ahead in the early signing and beyond, and I don't think Scott Frost and his staff are having any second thoughts at all about these guys that were in the queue under the previous regime.
Why? Because they didn't invest the time and energy we did in knowing these players and placing bets on them to be Huskers. More importantly, they know there are dozens of other recruits out there who are equally good or better, so they can move on much more quickly than your typical RSS member.
So now it's up to this board to let go of the past stable of recruits and get up to speed on new names from new parts of the country. That's happening more every day and now we just need to trust that these coaches know what's best for their system and the future of Husker football. So let's let go ... and let Frost!
