Yeah, and the folks who said the the OU program was dead and buried when Lincoln Riley left and was going to become "Nebraska v2.0" might want to tap the brakes a little bit.

Dillon Gabriel had 113 yards rushing and a TD.

He actually did pretty well his freshman year there but didn't play much. In his second year here he had a 65 percent completion pct. and a fairly high qb rating.
Might have done something here if Frost gave him a fair shake.
Look at what Venables is doing in year 2 after a very rough year 1.

OU still had a top 10 talent composite last year, so I'm not super impressed that Venables took over a loaded team and kept it running.

Let’s see how venibles does with his own recruits In the SEC in a couple of years, I personally don’t think he’s that good but I’ve been wrong before
I mean, according to 247 sports, his 2023 signed class was ranked #6 in the nation and his 2024 class of verbal commits is currently ranked #7 in the nation. I’d say his recruiting is pretty good.
Times have changed. This is no longer the SEC of the last 20 years. The elite teams in the SEC right now are Georgia and Alabama. There are a few other very good teams, and from the middle down they're not very good. Is it really more intimidating playing Arkansas, South Carolina and Florida right now (don't even mention Vanderbilt) than it is playing TCU, Kansas State, Texas Tech?
Texas and OU will do just fine in the SEC. They'll lose a few more games than they do in the Big 12, and will have a much more difficult path getting to the conference championship game, but they're going to consistently be in the upper echelon of that conference.

or the middle: N v. k-state.

Venables has a lot more to work with than Rhule. OU’s more recent success is much easier to recruit to than 5 losing seasons in a row….or was it 6.
OU’s program has been winning for over 20 years. NU has had a losing record 6 of the past 7 years. The programs are at very different levels. The last time NU was competitive with OU, TMart was QB and NU was still in the Big XII.
What were Frank's first three recruiting classes ranked? Venables are 8, 6 and 6 (right now for 2024). He's actually outperforming Lincoln Riley's recruiting classes so far, with the main difference being the balance between elite offensive and defensive players.
Frank left the cupboard bare, very quickly. Can't even compare the two. Would take Venables in a heartbeat. He's been surrounded by NFL talent for some time.
texas just beat alabama, manhandled them actually. and last year bama escaped austin with a win after texas lost their starting qb.
both ou and texas will compete for championship over there in the sec.

weak Alabama team this year. typical Texas team that rallies the troops for a few games (see: their 2019 game against LSU) then goes soft against the rest.
what does Michigan have to do with anything? are you saying the TCU team that was middling before last year and is currently 3-3 is the same team that beat Michigan?
I think as long as Kirby Smart is at Georgia, they are going to dominate the SEC like Oklahoma dominated the Big 12, winning a majority of the championships. As for Alabama, the chinks in the armor are beginning to show. They haven't been the dominant program the last couple of years that they once were. Saban is getting old, and I don't know how much longer he wants to continue. He is visibly upset with the changes from NIL and the transfer portal, and I think he sees the writing on the wall.
Now you have the big oil money coming in from Texas and Texas A&M (with a near bottomless pit of money), and I don't think Alabama can keep up with that type of financial tsunami. Georgia seems to be in a better position long-term with their big NIL contributors.

We'd be infinitely better too if we had him. He has looked pretty damn good so far and we wouldn't be dealing with the Bull Fighter at LT right now making an OLE!!!! Every single play.
They had good talent in their starting lineups to begin the season last year, but had no depth whatsoever, and when the injuries started to mount they were in big trouble on both sides of the ball. The quarterback situation was a catastrophe. Caleb Williams and Spencer Rattler entered the transfer portal after Riley left in December, and OU had to scramble to get Gabriel from the portal. However, they were left with a glorified mannequin (Davis Beville) as the backup quarterback, who couldn't even crack the 3-deep at Pittsburgh. When Gabriel went out with a concussion against TCU it was painfully obvious OU was in big trouble. In the Red River Rivalry blowout loss to Texas, OU ran mostly wildcat and had passing attempts from two running backs and a punter, and only passed for 39 yards the entire game.
This year, Beville is #4 on OU's depth chart, and they have 5* true freshman Jackson Arnold as a quality backup if anything happens to Gabriel. They also have competitive depth on defense, and are rotating in 30 guys during the course of the games.
So although last year was a disaster by OU's standards, they still managed to go 6-6 during the regular season and keep their consecutive bowl streak alive at 24 in a row. Also, only two of their losses were blowouts, and the others were one-possession games, so they knew that adding more depth to the roster would essentially enable them to flip the switch on those types of games.
they wouldn't even be the 2nd best team in the B1G/Pac
we saw the mighty b10's michigan last year get beat by the b12's second place team in the cfp. try harder.
