Kind of hand in hand with the WR's. And everyone feel free to jump in, day after Christmas with wife and kids out shopping. I lump TE/DE's together since crossover happens with these positions. Leitao and Porcher both decommitted, so I think we'd probably be looking to fill those spots. Here's Rivals undecided's with NU offers.

Carter Dunaway TE 5.5 6'6" 232 Bloomfield Hills, MI (Michigan decommit, Has 4 offers, including Michigan).
Reese Leitao TE 5.7 6'4" 236 Jenks, OK (I'm not checking Leitao)
Mik'Quan Deane TE 5.6 6'4" 235 Miami, OK (NU not in top picks)
Josh Falo TE 5.8 6'4" 216 Sacramento, CA (?)
Nick Robinson TE 5.8 6'4" 210 Oklahoma City, OK (NU not in top picks)
Chester Graves DE 5.8 6'4" 220 Kansas City, MO 224 (grades? NU not in top picks)
LaBryan Ray DE 6 6'4" 260 Madison, AL 54 (NU not in top picks)
Bryan Jones DE 5.8 6'5" 240 Baton Rouge, LA (NU not in top picks)
Ryan Johnson DE 5.8 6'4" 235 Mobile, AL 234 (NU not in top picks)
Martin Andrus DE 5.7 6'3" 255 Los Angeles, CA (NU in top picks)
Robert Porcher DE 5.8 6'3" 250 Orlando, FL (I'm not checking Porcher)
K'Lavon Chaisson DE 5.8 6'4" 220 Houston, TX 247 (NU not in top picks)

So Carter Dunaway is still in play at TE. I haven't heard his name mentioned a whole lot. Through a less than extensive internet search, I didn't see who he's interested in. Josh Falo looks to be staying in the Pac12.

Martin Andrus. A lot of conflicting information on Andrus. He was supposed to official visit NU, but I don't think he did.

And of course there's flippers and late offers.

Don't know ton about Nick Robinson but apparently we made his Top 7.

Is a good sign. It goes to show that until the recruits come out and say what they're thinking, that really nobody else knows. iirc, Robinson is waiting on an OU offer that may never come, at least according to somebody.

Dunaway was told to look elsewhere by Michigan. He is a legacy so it was a touchy situation where he was told that if he wanted to see the field it would have to be done elsewhere. He has a college football body and was offered as a HS soph. before even starting for varsity. He simply never developed into even a mid-tier P5 prospect. He might be worth a take if you are signing multiple TEs hoping he finds a situational role late in his career. However, if you are looking for a guy to at some point challenge to start you are better off looking elsewhere and/or use the schollie on another position and load up on TEs next year.

Much like most of the names in the list, I don't know much about really any of them. Just a look to see who might be out there, if we're looking to fill another TE spot. Recruiting sparked my interest down the stretch, but I haven't really followed it this year. Josh Falo and Nick Robinson are more the guys that look to be NU's true targets, in my less than expert opinion.

If what you say is true, it wouldn't surprise me concerning not seeing the field. He looks like he needs more years under his belt. And I don't know that we'd be looking to take on another project player, most of our TE's returning are young.

I kind of figured that's what you were doing which is why I gave some of the back story. My guess is he wouldn't have been on a lot of radars if it wasn't for the prior Michigan commitment. He is not a bad player but simply isn't a high level P5 prospect at the time (hear he is a great kid so I hope he proves people wrong).

As far as Falo...only heard great things about him. He was on a 7 on 7 team with a bunch of Michigan verbals at the opening (coached in part by a Michigan player)...they gushed about him...calling him the best receiving TE they've seen at this stage. I know Michigan made a run at him (and might try again) but while he said all the right things it didn't seem we were a serious player for him (his choice, not ours). From what I could gather it appears he will stay in P12 country. If you guys pull that one off it would be a big win for you guys and I wouldn't look forward to my wolverines facing him...whenever it is that we play again.

DE recruitment has been a problem for years. We need a pass rush and it doesn't seem help is imminent. I've watched Chris Weber sit on the bench all year, when I felt like he was one of our best linebackers. He has good size, he can take on a block, he has good instincts, why don't we use him as a rush end.

What? What makes you think he is anywhere near one of our best line backer? He is also a middle LB. They are almost never converted to rush DE's. It is almost always OLBs.

I am not sure why you think he would be a serviceable rusher?

It's not about his title as a middle linebacker. It's about his talent, which I thinK could translate to an effective rush end. Getting off blocks is critical, he does a good job. Could be wrong, but would like him to have an opportunity. Players are misplaced often.

I don't know about Webber, but Alexander and Ferguson were pretty darn good pass rushers in HS.

I think you may be confusing the skills of shedding a blocker in the run game with rushing the passer. As a MLB, shedding a guard coming to the second level is ripping your arm/shoulder across the blocker. Where a rush ends effectiveness relies on the explosiveness off the snap and having quick hands. They are completely different skill sets. I have no idea is Weber has those skills. But I know he doesn't have the ability to see the field at his current position and the coaches know they have an issue with the lack of a rushing DE. So if he did posses the ability to be a rush end, he wouldn't be missed at his current position and could easily be switched. That says a lot about his prospect of being a rush end to me.

(As a note: I'm not banging on Weber. I just don't think he's a rush end.)

Robert Beal is choosing between us and South Carolina for his last visit. Long shot at best, but I'd like to get the visit anyway. He's a UGA commit.

I remember that Parrella made an in-home visit with him on this last round of the open recruiting time period. And I can remember thinking that we better have a decent shot at Beal, or it's a waste of valuable in-home recruiting time.

In a situation where average to good results gets you fired, there's almost no incentive to *not* play for the home run ball.

The fanbase will learn this the hard way. :)

I'll let the baseball gurus fight out the desirability of building a team around the home run ball.

It should be noted that at the time of Parrella's in-home visit with Beal, Porcher was still committed and Thomas was more certain. Sticking with baseball analogies, we should be swinging for the fence, but not with guys where the game is already over.

If you reread my previous post, if we have a decent shot at Beal then great. If no shot, waste of valuable time.

Yah, I think part of it was messaging.

Not sure of Shelvin's visit date, but was it at the same time.

Who has been fired for good results?

I took it as average to good results in recruiting.

Pelini and staff were fired and produced good to average on the trail. If he would have gone for the home run instead of hitting 4 singles more often maybe his personality traits are overlooked. And that's just Nebraska. Les Miles recruited well and he was fired, imagine if he tried to run that offense with average to good players.

This.

Premium article says that Nick Robinson has scheduled an official visit with us. I'm not a subscriber and I couldn't find any info on the net, so details will have to follow.

Did this just come out of the blue or was this on the radar? His other visits are Central Michigan and Memphis but holds ASU and Tennessee offer?

Concerning Nick Robinson, his rivals prospect page shows 01/27 visit.

Did this just come out of the blue or was this on the radar? His other visits are Central Michigan and Memphis but holds ASU and Tennessee offer?

When I originally started the thread, the info on Robinson showed him interested in 3 schools, none of which where NU, but this was from experts guesstimating. He has announced his top 7 and NU is in it.

The Herald's Big Board has had him on there for awhile. Much like Darnay Holmes, the recruits may have a different list of favorites than what the national recruiting experts think.

I saw on a Miami Board that they were claiming that Robinson said that if Miami would make him an offer that he would go there last; if Miami did not offer, that he would go to Nebraska. Believable? Who knows.
