After 35 years of incredible stability and winning culture and at N.U. we have had 20 years of uncertainty and turmoil. We have had three A.D's and four different coaching staffs sine the glory years. The impact all this has had in the culture of the entire athletic department has to be toxic and negative. Nebraskans are hard working, honest and good people, but working in that kind of environment can't help but be demoralizing. When A.D's and coaches change, people loose their jobs not only on the coaching staffs, but also in the athletic department.
So,will he or won't he get fired? No one knows for sure and this uncertainty has created a vacuum into which all kinds rumors are flowing inside the athletic department, among the players, the coaching staff, the press and of course the public. With all the rumors, predictions, negative comments about the team, trashing specific players and coaches it would not surprise me if we lost every game from green out. This is Rileys third team, but he really has had only two recruiting classes since he arrived, so many of the players he recruited aren't even playing. If he is fired the next coach is going to face the same situation. He will be dealing with Riley recruits, even some of Bo's, and we will be starting all over again for the 5th time in 20 years. All of this negative stuff can't help but demoralize a team and having players saying they will transfer. Of course it's already had an impact on one major recruit and no doubt will effect others as well. All in all, I think we are in for dissapointing seasons for the next four or five years.
