Ty Robinson

Doing things to solidify his draft stock today.
He played like a 1st or 2nd round pick for us this year. It should be interesting where he winds up. The draft is deep with DTs this year. I heard a scouting report that said Ty is tight in the lower body and that will hinder his potential at the next level.

I don’t see either side of line improving next year -Unless they get even more portal help.
The Oline returns 3 of 5 starters and adds a guy who started at Bama and now apparently Spindler as well. So all projected starters along the line are returning starters. The OLine should be better. It’s hard to replace men as large as Ty and Nash at their level of athleticism. RVP is a younger version of that. They need a second big guy to play on run downs at least. They have Jeudy, Sua, Parrot and the transfer from MS St. as bigger DT types. Maybe the Terry kid coming in adds some weight and gets some reps.

Whatever. The stupid shit scouts focus on instead of on the field performance. He went up against top OL all season in the Big 10 and dominated.

Offense better defense worse next year imo.

Defensive line was a strength this past season and won’t be this year. But maybe they are good enough, because I think the LB and DB rotational talent is better. Rhule hinted at possibly variability in fronts. With a kid like McCullough playing Rover, NU could show a 4-3, 3-4 or 3-3-5 on any play.

Defensive line, definite drop off.
LBs and Secondary better perhaps?

Probably true. But our DL is the main reason our defense has been what it was under White imo. But you don't lose Ty, Nash, Butler, Sherman, Williams, and even Wallen without some drop off imo. Hard to be a "good" defense in the BIG with "average' DL play imo.

I've thought for a while now that the key to our defense taking the next step is to get playmakers at the 2nd and 3rd level and get off the field earlier and create more turnovers. I think the OU transfer should help with that. Shavers as well. McGahee has a knack for strip sacks. Wright was our best secondary player.

So, we could have a statistically worse defense but the D could help us win more games.

I think he's going to be a good NFL player. What did Ty NOT do in college? Sacks, batted down passes, 4th down stops, played fullback, blocked kicks. I'm hoping that my Steelers can nab him if he slips to the 3rd round, and I usually don't hope for the Steelers to draft Nebraska guys.

lots of fans are also clueless as to what constitutes a high draft pick

not their fault, of course, since we don't get to see many

We tend to inflate the draft prospects of our favorite players and downgrade guys we have a beef with. It’s always fun to see where they land. Ty has lots of competition for a draft spot at DT. I like both he and Nash’s pro potential better than Vincent Valentine but for some unknown reason Belichick took VV early. I don’t think he lasted 2 full years in the league. I just don’t think Ty and Nash are explosive enough athletes to make much of a mark in the NFL but we’ll see. Best of luck to them. They were very solid players for us and about the best people you could ask for. I didn’t think Harrison Phillips would stick around as long as he did too so….

All it takes is one coach or GM to fall in love with a guy. Mid rounds are still good.

And Maliek Collins is still playing.

Very true. And really, a lot of these guys have a range that they can fall in. Ty could honestly go 2nd-5th at this point because the DT class is deep. If a team likes Ty, but has him rated about even with four others, they may wait to draft a DT figuring that someone will probably fall to them in the next round. A few teams, like the Steelers, may rate Ty as high as a 2nd rounder. But if a stud DT falls in round one, the Steelers could go DT in the first round and move on to CB and WR in the next couple rounds. It gets more unpredictable the lower a person is rated.

Side note: Tommi Hill did not have a good Senior Bowl week. Scouts said he looked slow. Might have to play safety. I heard that he left the practice field with an injury at one point. I'm not sure that he even played in the actual game.

A very terrible time to get an injury that is a bitch to resolve. My oldest developed into a decent mid-distance runner in HS and developed PF his junior year. PF is not an uncommon affliction for runners and we caught it early. What you are not supposed to do is what Tommi did, try to gut it out. And so his PF played out in the worst possible way.

I think Valentine reminded Bill of Vince Wolfolk, who was an absolute stud and even had the same first name. It's interesting how even the best coaches can make mistakes in the draft and as the years went by, Belichick made a lot of them.

we have known we were going to have to replace 0&9 for a good 2 years. so I'm sure they will be plenty stocked at dt...
anyone who follows NU football knows the blackshirts start front and center, what with Noonan, Peters, Suh and such.
stop the run and win

Maliek was always a pretty explosive athlete though. We had a DT back in the 80s who could do standing back flips and I seem to recall Maliek doing one once. I hate to think about the cervical injuries if Ty or Nash tried to do a back flip. 🤔

I had PF last year and it took months to resolve and I’m not exactly a D1 athlete.
