I'm trying to dig into the disconnect

here's the biggest culprit:

4 redzone trips/game this year (29th nationally) compared to just 2.3 redzone trips/game last year (127th nationally)
67.86% redzone scoring (TDs+FGs) (130th nationally (out of 133)) compared to 74.07% redzone scoring last year (113th nationally)

we are f*cking atrocious in the red area, and that is putting it kindly.

simply being average would have this team scoring closer to 40ppg than 20ppg given our near-elite volume.

worth noting we're 5-8 in red zone FGAs.

still really bad, but that's not to blame for this overall redzone scoring %.

we've made 32 trips so far and come away with just 17 TDs.

10 completely empty redzone possessions in 2024. at or near tops in the country.

But even if the offense isn’t scoring on TOs, the opponent isn’t scoring on NU as much. Still a net gain, isn’t it?

Well, turnover margin also needs to include missed FGs, and turnover on downs....since those are exactly the same outcome as fumbling or an INT.
