1. What, in your opinion, will it take to turn the program around? Talent, coaching, scheme or some combination?
2. How far off do you think we are to being competitive in the B1G West in terms of years and/or recruits?
3. What kind of class do you expect this staff to pull in given their attention to recruiting which was sorely lacking in the previous staff? Do you think that's enough to overcome the deficiencies we're seeing?
4. How many years have you mentally given Riley and his staff? Does that change if next year is like this one?
5. This staff will do some house cleaning. Who do you see as the biggest departure from the team that nobody is expecting?

First and foremost is effort. All the talent in the world is useless without effort. I'm not even sure how much of a problem talent, scheme and coaching decisions are because there is just such a lack of effort by certain guys sometimes.

Can you expound on this? Are there specific players/positions to which you are referring, or is it an overall perception of lack of effort by the team? Not discounting what you are saying at all, as it actually explains some things, but rather am genuinely curious.

1. I put most of the blame on coaches, mostly because of how much of a drop off there has been this season. There are some depth issues, but overall, Nebraska has plenty of talent on this team.
2. Nebraska is competitive right now. I would expect that next year Nebraska will be much better considering a lot of young skill players. Nebraska needs the line to get bigger, stronger and meaner in the offseason-so they can control the line of scrimmage. Defensively need a better pass rush-particularly at DE. Might have to find a replacement for Collins too. Secondary will have some work to do with communication and technique.
3. Recruiting is a tricky business. I have said before, this staff is selling the future--as long as the recruits stay with this message-the class should be good. However, as you get closer to the first Wednesday in February, other schools will likely point out what Riley's record is at Nebraska this year and probably the past few years at Oregon State--so that could hurt. Really hard to say at this point-but MOST recruits aren't going to freak out over one bad season.
4. For me, most staff's start off with getting 3 years. That isn't to win a title...that is to show that the program is progressing. I do think that REALLY bad seasons change everything...maybe not one, but if the first two seasons are bad...all bets are off. I think for the most part-AD's that hire a guy are probably more likely to try and give their guy the benefit of the doubt and extra time to succeed.
5. No idea--but I think Collins will declare after the year-not because of attitude, because of good play.

A team I believe eventually takes on the personality of the coach. Riley is completely the opposite of who he replaced. Riley replaced a coach that was fiery, abusive on the sidelines, and out of control. Most of the players however responded to him and supposedly were willing to run through a brick wall for him.

With Riley as HC. people are saying that there appears to be a lack of energy, effort, and passion in their play. Riley is like Osborne in respect to personality and Osborne relied on players like Jason Peter and his brother Christian to provide leadership and demand the effort that was required. I think that leaders need to emerge from this team that will hold players accountable for what happens in practice and in the games.

1. It is both but for me talent is a huge issue. I keep reading about all the talent we have. Well exactly where is it? We have 2 players,2, that will make any post season conference teams, Foltz and Collins. That is not a talent laden team. I have been extremely disappointed in this staff to date except for Bray and Hughes.

2.We are at least 2 years away.

3. 22-25 ranked class.It will sure help.

4.3.

5. I have a few guesses but since it is a guess I will keep it to myself. No sense speculating on that here.

If you watch Gerry/Banderas and some of the O lineman you will see what I'm talking about. There are others but thats a good place to start.
