Tuesday, April 11th Nebraska vs Omaha (Huskers lose 6-5 in 10 innings)

We’ve had a few hard hits which tells me our bats will blow up here this next inning (knock on wood). Just need to stop dinking around on the mound and on defense. Hawkins has stopped the bleeding at least.

RPI took a ding. Moved from 78 to 94. No improvement expected this weekend. Probably move to 100+. We fans are just screwed.

Gonna backtrack here a little. We do have a chance to improve RPI some this weekend. I looked into this a little deeper b/c a 16 spot drop after one game is too steep a fall after losing to a 10-14 team. 10-14 is too close to .500 to be terrible.

Found out that nine of our opponents played on Tuesday and came away 3-6 for a .333 win percent. That will dent the SOS enough to account for much of our drop. SOS is 75% of RPI.

Point being, they performed well below their own average and can be expected to return to the mean even as early as this weekend, depending on opponents played this weekend of course, but hiccups like that always even out.

Saw this happen before a few years ago where Tue/Wed games of our opponents came out spectacularly well and we actually moved from 22-ish to 11..., until the weekend came. Ha ha, then we were right back into the mid 20s.

We play NW rpi 268 at home this weekend.. best case scenario is we somehow stay two-digit rpi .. I do agree we‘ll have some chances to get back to under 80, but those chances are fleeting

Please rell me that was sarcasm....you really never know anymore.
I think it was sarcasm. I want to give credit to the Big Ten for being a 4 bid league on average but lets be honest, not making the tourney last year was a kick in the $&@. This year we need to sweep the bottom feeders and win 2/3 against Iowa and possibly Maryland to make it to a regional. We will see. We are just fans.

I cant give credit to a power 5 conference only getting 4 teams in. Thats embarrassing to me. Ever since Nebraska joined the Big 10 they should never have finished lower than 3rd in this conference. Even in the strong years where a team made it to the CWS.

I think once usc and ucla joins it will be considered a power Conf .. just as long as NW drops its program

That is because the Big Ten doesn't care about baseball. They get 4-5 teams in it in spite of that fact. The Sun Belt cares more about baseball than the Big Ten. The NCAA also makes it tough to schedule outside of your region for midweek games due student attendance rules.

I too don't feel like even Nebraska has gone all in on baseball otherwise they would charter a plane to fly south for midweek competition.

I do agree that Nebraska should almost always finish in the top 3 of the conference however.

Bringing in USC and UCLA should lift the profile of the conference. I'm hopeful that their addition, along with the new commissioner having worked for MLB for a dozen years, will increase the level of "caring" about baseball by the league office.

Nebraska has probably been the second-best conference program (behind Indiana) since joining the Big 10. But there have been too many ups and downs. Won the league twice but also missed the conference tournament (IN OMAHA) twice. And no real highs like making it to Omaha or even to a super regional.

I won't go so far as to say Nebraska should always finish in the top three, especially with two California schools coming on board. Finish fourth in the Big ten but first in a regional? Yes, please. But Nebraska should absolutely have the best program over the long term among current conference members.

My expectations for where Nebraska baseball needs to get to are roughly as follows. In a 10-year period, it should:

1. Make the conference tournament 10 times.
2. Make a regional 7 times.
3. Host a regional 2 times.
4. Make a super regional 2 times.

I of course want to win conference regular season and tournament titles but they are secondary to performing well on a national level, which is what 2-4 represent.
