Trev Alberts and Scott Frost a Real Possibility?

If people are pissed at Eichorst for the way he handled the Pelini firing then they should be super pissed at Trev for the way he handled cutting the UNO wrestling program.

I don't remember people (fans) being pissed about Pelini firing- and to add another layer to your statement the people that are pissed for he way Eichorst and Trev handled it should be super super pissed at the way Riley fired Banker!

I would hope they are a mess...is there a school in the country that doesn't have a D1 Football program and/or amazing D1 Basketball program that isn't a mess?

Well they were in a better financial state 7 years ago. So I suppose that the finances are worse matters a lot.

No one is pissed about that...except that it should have happened sooner. SE is gone because he hates people, shaking hands, talking, laughing, and people.
The way trev handled the situation was chickenshit, plain and simple.
He's a coward and likes looking at himself in the mirror like Steve p. did.

whatever legacy TO has left?
Everyone will forget that TO was the greatest college football coach of all-time if we fire Mike Riley, who has no connection to TO what so ever??

I really doubt we will hire Alberts. Too much bad blood in Omaha against him. People there view him as TO's puppet and thus a lackey for UNL at the expense of UNO. The last thing we need is to hire a guy that will piss off tons of people in our largest city. I think Bounds knows that.

And I believe Rimington when he says he will not be the permanent AD. So I really think there is going to be a true national search for a highly qualified and experienced AD.

But if Alberts does get hired, in my opinion, that is a very bad sign that the process was not honest and was rigged by people with money exerting pressure.

I don't think they will hire Trev either but I really don't think there is bad blood. No one cared about UNO football and UNO wrestling was great but the wrestling community is so small.

I also know he is unqualified. He has done a poor job at UNO (mediocre if you're generous). Their finances are a mess. His only accomplishments are hiring Blaise (great hire) and building Baxter arena (yay?).

That sounds about like a 1000% upgrade over the guy we just got rid of. Winking

A " source" says there is "some truth" to the fan rumors. How many people did this go through before it got to him? I prefer to sit back and let those in charge do their jobs. I am assuming they didn't ask anyone in this board for their opinion. I could be wrong about that as well. This just shows the truth of human nature.
I get a "kick" out of message board posters who think that if they post a dozen posts about how they want Trev, or don't want him - that maybe it will sway the decision in some way. I don't have a dog in the fight, and refuse to enter message board arguments/wars. It will all work out in the end.

You might be right. I hope you are. I might be showing my age here. I am 59 and all of my relatives in Omaha (my mom grew up in south Omaha) are older too. And they actually DID follow and liked UNO football. They and their friends were pissed when it got the axe. They have never forgiven Alberts for what they saw as an inside agreement with TO to get rid of UNO football.

Having an AD that is supported by "people with money" is not necessarily a bad thing.
I hope we do a true national search, but won't be disappointed if it's Trev. I'm more interested in the next move (which I believe is inevitable).

I guess I don't get that logic. Character is character right? Does the alleged number of people who cared really matter? If the number of people who care if you cheat on your wife is small, does that somehow make your actions OK or acceptable?

You didn't refuse to enter message board arguments. You posted smack dab in the middle of one.

You missed one key point - I wasn't arguing with anybody.

By posting your opinion about how you get a kick out of them, insinuating that you are somehow above the rest of society, you are entering into the discussion and argument.

So back to the yacht Thurston Howell III.

Why did Trev leave ESPN? Did he and Mark May not get along?

He was being a baby.

http://www.scoresreport.com/2005/09/07/espn-fires-trev-alberts/

'ESPN has fired Trev Alberts, the opinionated college football analyst, after Alberts refused to show up for work. Alberts reportedly complained about playing “second fiddle” on the popular GameDay program.'

https://deadspin.com/124175/alberts-crosses-almighty-espn-pays-price

"He phoned and said that he wasn't going to show up," Mark Shapiro, ESPN's Vice President of Programming and Production, told SI.com on Tuesday night, "and when he didn't, he was in breach of his contract and we terminated him."

You're joking right?

I agree that those upset with Eichorst / Trev situation should be just as upset the way Riley handled the Banker firing.

If I had to rank which firing were worse, to me the Trev situation was by far the worst (to the wrestling coach/program, I don't know how he handled the football coach/program), then Riley to Banker, then Eichorst to Pelini.

One thing to realize....Trev isn't the only AD who would potentially hire Frost.

Frost was listed as a Top 5 coaching candidate for a "bigger job" by SI just before the season (Chip Kelly was the biggest get this offseason, Frank Wilson and some other candidates obviously fall in the "up and coming category"). That's with all of 7 wins to his name, and barely double digits on his record period.

Del Conte or whoever the next AD is, is probably going to give a hard look to Frost because the narrative in national media is also that Frost is a good fit/potential savior here. Should it be necessary.

My main fear or concern is that with all of the buzz around Frost, the next AD will be behind the 8 ball if he chooses to not fire Riley or not hire Frost. There is already a large number of people, some of them boosters, that believe Riley won't win enough games to save his job, will be terminated and that Frost is the only real choice to hire. Why can't the committee and Ronnie and Hammerin' Hank just find the best guy for the job, then back away, tell the boosters to back off and let the new guy do his job and hire the best football coach, or retain Riley, or can Miles, or keep Miles or whatever?

Because that is not how it is "destined" to work here.

I think its a real concern, the fan reaction to any potential rejection of the Nebraska Way. We've had a ton of posts pop up across Husker nation about the powers that be guiding us back to our own roots (its sort of lost/irrelevant that Frost currently doesn't run a "power" system).

I do think a new outside hire does run a risk of some backlash if he doesn't fire Riley, or if he does, he hires say... Frank Wilson. Bringing in Rimington temporarily and ending up with an outsider running the program at both levels is going to be a major cock tease to a large segment of the fan base if it does happen.

However, I do not think AD decisions are totally unbiased. He's going to have fans screaming in his ear. He's going to have folks that make the money part of his job terrifically easy or hard, in his ear. He's going to have the national media in his ear about the perfect fit of Frost.

I have to think that short of a Peterson or a Patterson miraculously moving, Frost being a former Husker is going to win a lot of jump ball situations against other potential "up and coming" candidates. Alberts or not.

I think the "doesn't fire Riley this year" part of the situation will be a rather uncomfortable situation if that's the way it plays out.

My bad @little a . You're right, very few, if any were upset in the way Pelini was fired by Eichorst (that I saw).

It was mostly Bo and his players who were upset in the way he was fired or the way the players were notified. The way the players were notified by Eichorst could've been better. I believe the players overreacted a bit, but I get where they are coming from.

That's why it's so important that the next AD understands the culture here. And if he does go with an outsider, he better be right.

The AD who would fire Riley certainly would. And I'm not talking about TO's acumen as head coach, but his effect on the Athletic Department after he "retired".

There is always influence when hiring a new coach. Do you not think Perlman had an influence if the type of guy Eichorst hired. Boosters of course have influence but that is why we need an AD with some backbone. A good AD doesnt try to appease he/she makes decision based on who could coach the team to more wins

I am not so sure that returning our roots is a bad thing, seems to me our periods where we have the most problems are when we stray
