I actually brought this up about a month ago on another board. They mention the biggest problem with moving the transfer portal back to beyond the bowl/playoffs is the academic year. They would miss the enrollment deadline. I think they should consider an option. Allow a once in a lifetime option for the players to participate in spring ball as a non-registered student. Start by opening the transfer portal up after the CFP and let the coaches/recruits spend the next 6-8 weeks prior to spring ball in recruiting mode. Basically doing what they are doing in December and moving it to February.
However, after signing, they would be allowed to participate in spring practice in a "temporary academic" position. It would still be subjecting them to being accepted by that individual university for either the summer or fall session. The advantage of this is it would stop/reduce all the transferring being done before bowl games, lighten up the load on the coaches during bowl season and with it being a one-time exemption........any players that transfer more than once wouldn't be able to participate in spring practice the second.....or third time around.
