Cooper is a revelation as a recruiter. You can’t have speed if you don’t recruit it. NU will have two competitive sprinters on the roster this fall plus Coleman.who can also move. Cooper called the sprinters coach 5 minutes after he looked at Turner’s film with notice of an offer.

Yeah, I’m gonna be that guy…

They do have to be able to play real football to actually be useful as speed guys. I do love that Nebraska is bringing in burners, but the burners have to be able to do more than that and/or the offense needs to be versatile as well.

Like Lloyd is WILDLY fast, but could be contained this year. However, because of OW’s QB and such, even if you took him away, they could still kill you.

To be honest, the kid from Gretna that got injured(#26, Joe Roll I think) played faster than anyone in Nebraska. SDSU got a steal there.

I agree, and Frost tried something similar in the beginning when he recruited track star sprinters like Jamie Nance, Jaron Woodyard, and Mike Williams. None of them did much at all on the football field. I believe Rahmir Johnson was also one of the fastest sprinters in the country in high school, but he hasn't done a lot either.

Ability to change speed/direction is more important in football than 100m sprint speed. Very rarely in football is anyone going to just sprint in a straight line.

50% of kids that come into the program contribute. I guess we will find out whether the staff has the chops to develop kids like this.
Interesting you mentioned the Nance kid. He is playing CB at Utah State.

Rahmir was nowhere near one of the fastest sprinters in high school.
Not even in the same zip code.

Mcgriff has been decent for them at WR

Rahmir is fast, but isn’t in the same zip code as Lloyd and Turner. We saw a couple of years ago how he could be used. Maybe Rhule will find a use for him.

Rahmir ran a 10.5 in the 100m and 21.46 in the 200m. Both times are faster than the times that Jaylen Lloyd ran in last year's State Track Meet. He was absolutely in the same zip code.

Don't know how Lloyd wound up running in Lane 1 in the 200 meters, especially with half the race being run around a turn, but he's a kid that could surprise.

You said Rahmir, in high school, was one of the fastest sprinters in the country. Not even close. And I'm not comparing him to Lloyd because that's not what your comment was based on. Was that after Lloyd had done his long jump and triple jump events?

Would you like to compare him to Brice Turner now?

Demariyon Houston was another guy Frost recruited that was a star track sprinter in high school, but didn't do anything on the football field.

So if a couple of track guys didn't do much in football, does that mean none of them will?

Ahmann Green and Eric Crouch were track guys who did pretty well in football.

Well, he was good enough to qualify for Nationals every year in high school. I assume that means he was one of the fastest sprinters in the country. What sprint times do you think are "elite" for a high school sprinter?

Correction, they were football players who did pretty well in track.

And Crouch’s FAT times just don’t match up with legit sprinters.

The indoor track is not an outdoor track. Elite high school is 10.25 and faster.

I worked with Olympic sprinters for 11 years, so I know a little about what's fast and what's really fast.

lol Green and Crouch were Parade All-Americans who dominated in football in high school and were recruited by all the powerhouse football programs.

Tell me what other football offers Brice Turner, Jaylen Llloyd, and Eric Fields had?

To be fair, barely any players materialized under Frost in general. Worst developmental program in the nation is what we were. Tough for players to do as much when we were always in Martinez -ball and constantly turning it over.

If you want to talk about legit sprinters very few football players are fast enough to join that conversation.

Of course, Bob Hayes of the Dallas Cowboys was an Olympic gold medal winner at 100 meters and anchored the 4 X 100-meter relay team to another gold medal, and he had a nice pro football career.

Any player in college football that can run a legit 10.5 meters is a threat to go the distance if they get a step.

Sounds good. Eric Crouch still never ran a legit 10.5 though.

Nope…getting hand timed by some ex-AD’s buddy at a random meet doesn’t count.
As a senior, he was the Metro Conference champion at both the 100 meters and the 200 meters. As a junior, he won the 200 meters. He was plenty fast for a QB.

Was that because one of his Dad's AD's buddies timed those races?

Omaha tends to have some fast kids year in and year out.

Come on, half the sprinters in the last olympics didn't even run 10.25 in the first heats.

Any high school kid who can run a 10.5 100m has elite track speed. The point is, that doesn't mean they are D-I caliber football players just because they can run fast in a straight line without pads and a helmet on..

You run just fast enough in the early heats just to qualify. Do you think they run the prelims to medal?

10.5 times at 100 meters in Texas, California, and Florida won't medal in any of those state's Class systems.

The defenders have pads and helmets on too.

You seem really unhappy here, you should join us Iowa fans. I can DM you, there’s a group of us that get together for some wild nights.

Never said he wasn’t. Stop moving the goalposts.
I didn't move the goalposts, the original comment was Rahmir was one of the fastest sprinters in high school, and he wasn't even close.

Harry Caray went from Rahmir, to Lloyd, to Demariyon Houston to what other football schools offered Turner, Lloyd, etc.

Plus being able to catch a ball and hang onto it when somebody hits you.
