This off season will be real interesting going forward with current rising Star Tony White. Currently he's tied at twentieth Nationally among Defensive Coordinators earning a cool $1 mil a year.

For comparison, Satterfield is currently our highest paid assistant at 1.4 mil..

Hopefully Coach White holds tight, enjoys his much earned raise and somewhere down the line can take his pick of a Power Five Head Coach position.

$2mil next year??

"Show me the money!"

He's not going anywhere next year
I don't think so either.
He's a great up and coming coach and hope we can keep him for at least another contract, but stranger things have happened.
He has the defense playing at a level we haven't seen in awhile and if they (the defense) can give us more time to develop and install the offense--with players that fit the scheme Rhule ultimately wants to run here-- we will really be in a good spot in the future.

if he keeps it up, he'll inevitably get HC looks at smaller schools.

if the Huskers do complete a full rebuild, we as fans will just have to contend with the fact that other teams will be clamoring for pieces of what made that rebuild work.

good teams get their coordinators poached. hell, Oregon had to replace an OC & DC after Lannings first year.

^^Totally understand.
The landscape of college is changing very fast, with the introduction of four new teams next year it will be good to hold onto anything (good) that helps rebuild this program. It's win in two or three years or get out now for many coaches, so the turnover rate will be faster.

It's a good problem to have when other schools will come calling for your successful Coaches looking to duplicate the success they have here.

Alex Grinch is going to be kicked out of Trojanland. Trev better step up to the plate and make it hard for White to go back to LA.

That’s been my biggest fear, hoping Riley bolts for nfl and SC has to hire a new coach. Welcome back Lane?

If he leaves - do you narrow your search to just 3-3-5 def coord or does scheme not play as big a role?
I was worried about them bringing the 3-3-5 here, but pleasantly surprised on how effective it has been.
Should we be concerned it's one of those defenses where when you have the right pieces it's successful, but when you're missing key parts it's less so??

Dangerous like the good ole days.

And who even says we have all the right pieces? We could be this good while still even having more room to improve with a few better players and more time in the system. If so, that’s scary good for us and reason to bump White to $1.4 mil per and extend through 2026.
I hope he’s like Bud Foster, content with being a DC

We can pay him at or near the top of the market for DCs. That’s a LOT of money and Lincoln is a great small city. People always forget that most coaches crave stability. With all of his personal issues we gave Pelini 7 years. Rhule is locked in for 8 years. THIS is a very good situation for White and he isn’t going to leave to be a head coach at a directional school.

I listen to Kiffin when he comes on the Dan Patrick Show. I like him. Used to think he was a jerk, but I actually think Kiffin stays true to who he is.
The guy they left on the tarmac when they fired him the first time? I doubt it
That firing on the tarmac had as much to do with then AD Pat Haden’s ego as Lane’s coaching record. What a botched and rushed firing. Haden and the team drove off with Kiffin’s personal bags leaving him with no transportation. Totally new regime at USC now. I would probably bet against Kiffin returning.

I was definitely wrong about the 3-3-5. We better make him the highest paid assistant in the Big 10 if we're serious about contending. Rhule did not spend all his assistant pool money, so there's cash sitting there available to use.

Kiffin has grown as a person and a coach, he isn't the same guy he was when he was 30. I'd love him in Lincoln.

Yeah, that whole thing was blown out of proportion in a lot of different ways. It wasn't really on the tarmac, they had a driver for him, Haden's hand was forced, etc. But, still entertaining as hell. Here's a pretty good read on it from September of this year with quotes from a lot of the people involved, including Kiffin...

I think White will earn raises to keep him happy and hopefully he puts a value on the leadership he is learning from Rhule. If I were him, this is absolutely a dream scenario on how to build a program back and to be a part of the leadership to make it happen is worth more than jumping ship to a small school.

Bottom line he’s in a great situation for the next few years to receive mentoring from Rhule and will benefit greatly from it. Collect the raises keep making the D a household name, learn from the front seats on how to build a program back and take that experience to the next level in his career.

Excited he’s a husker and looking forward to seeing him grow in the future into a head coaching role. I have no doubt Rhule pours into the development of his staff and especially with someone like White.

GBR.

He has a son and a daughter, presumably younger kids. One would think the mentoring he is getting from Rhule, the fans his defense plays in front of, and the family atmosphere the program tries to function with would keep him around for awhile. He has mentioned in multiple interviews how the "head man" has players and coaches over to his house. And did you see Coach Cooper dressed up like an Oompa Loompa at their kid's Halloween party? That was hilarious. It is possible he may choose to keep his kids in the same school for awhile knowing down the road the big money is certain to be there. In the mean time, to not make as much as Satterfield next year would be an insult and Trev/Rhule better bump him up.

💯

That makes alot of sense.
Stay, learn how to build a program and kick ass.

You guys are funny if you think staying and learning will be a motivation for him. I hope he stays though....

If Coach White believes he's ready to be a head coach somewhere great for him.
Some coaches only get 1 SHOT to be a head coach at a big time program and max out their salary. Hence why staying and gaining the most experience he can before that leap could be sufficient Motivation.

He has the appearance of being more Indian than Chief, doesn't have the presence of Rhule or other big time coaches to me.

It doesn’t surprise me you would think this way. It gives a lot of insight on your knowledge, or lack thereof, regarding professional development.
