1959 - Tom Landry accepts the head coaching position with the Dallas Cowboys, a position he would hold until 1988.
1969 - Vince Lombardi coaches his final football game in a loss for the Washington Redskins. Washington ended the season with a 7-5-2 record, their first winning campaign in 14 years.
1975 - Buffalo Sabres set NHL record of 40 points beating Washington Capitals 14-2 scoring five goals versus Capitals in 4:57.
