Here are some quick notes to pass along from Nebraska’s walk-through practice on Thursday morning...

***Head coach Scott Frost said the Big Ten informed him of the situation regarding Khalil Davis sometime either Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, but it wasn’t until Wednesday afternoon that he learned Davis would be suspended.

Frost said he had no idea what happened during the game, but the referee told him there were some “extracurriculars” going on with Davis. He said he obviously doesn’t condone that type of behavior, and if it were to ever happen again, he’d expect the same type of punishment from the Big Ten.

Frost said Davis would also face some internal discipline in addition to his one-game suspension.

***Frost said Ben Stille would get the start on place of Davis, but he wasn’t sure what the rest of the defensive end rotation would look like on Saturday. He said Deontre Thomas was a guy who had been playing well lately and could see a bigger role vs. Northwestern.

***Frost said he told his team that this was probably as important of a game Northwestern would have all season given where the Wildcats’ season is at 1-3. He also said this week was just as important for Nebraska given the need to bounce back after a blowout home loss.

***Frost said there wouldn’t be a bigger key to Saturday’s game than turnovers. He pointed to last year’s loss and said if NU had done a better job protecting the football they would’ve won the game.

***Frost said the giveaways against Ohio State were mostly a result of great players making great defensive plays, but the amount of turnovers Nebraska has had this year means it’s not just a coincidence. He said teams that don’t turn it over in practice don’t turn it over in games, and it needs to be a daily emphasis more than ever right now.

***Frost said Thursday was a “really good” walk-through that capped off a good overall week of practice. He said the Huskers were as ready to execute the game plan as they’ve been all year.

***Frost said freshman Chris Hickman could see some action on special teams this week. He said NU is really excited about his potential and Hickman would benefit from the four-game redshirt rule to get a taste of playing time this season.

***Frost said Rahmir Johnson has been “close” to playing for a few weeks now, “and he’s ready now.” Frost said Johnson’s speed could be a real difference-maker for the Huskers, and it’s just been a matter of the coaches feeling good enough about the freshman’s understanding of the offense before putting him out there in games.

***Frost confirmed that freshman running back Ronald Thompkins would be out until the spring after undergoing another minor knee procedure “to clean some stuff up.”
