Here are some quick notes to pass along from Nebraska’s full-pads fall camp practice on Thursday morning…
***Head coach Mike Riley announced that freshman wide receiver Jaevon McQuitty would be out for the season after suffering a knee injury during a blocking drill earlier this week.
***Offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf said it was a shame to see McQuitty go down, as he was pushing to play right away this season.
***Riley also announced that receivers Keyan Williams and J.D. Spielman were out with pulled muscles. Williams is expected back within the next couple weeks, while Spielman is considered day-to-day.
***Lastly, Riley said running back Tre Bryant was held out per coaches’ decision after dealing with some “wear and tear” on his previously injured knee. Riley said Bryant could be back for Friday’s practice but would definitely return on Monday.
***Langsdorf made an interesting comment when asked about the No. 2 quarterback spot, saying it wasn’t totally clear at this point who the top backup was behind starter Tanner Lee. Langsdorf said Patrick O’Brien and Tristan Gebbia had been getting pretty equal reps and were both going through their ups and downs.
***Both Langsdorf and offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh said the o-line had some issues with defensive line stunts and blitz identification during Thursday’s situational scrimmage work. They said third-and-long blitz pressures were a problem for the group in particular.
***Another issue has been consistency in the center-quarterback snap exchanges between center Cole Conrad and Lee. Langsdorf and Cavanaugh agreed that it was on both the centers and the quarterbacks to figure it out and get the mistakes corrected.
***Running back Devine Ozigbo said he feels in the best shape of his career right now after a frustrating back injury held him back in a big way this spring. After taking a couple weeks off after the spring game, Ozigibo said he had a great summer of workouts and really cleaned up his diet.
He said the biggest things he stopped eating were his mother’s Nigerian cooking and Whataburger.
***With Keyan Williams and Spielman out, Nebraska brought up receivers Ty Chaffin and Christian Banker to the 105-man roster for fall camp.
***An NFL scout from the Kansas City Chiefs took in Thursday's practice.
