It seems like Some of the decisions Riley makes will either make him look like a genius or a goat. Too many times they have backfired.
100%. I actually had confidence going into those drives because of the two consecutive series that Danny had called before. We had a little bit of everything and Wisconsin was off balance. We then reverted back to our old ways. Oh well... C'est La Vie.
I get that. I just don't think weather is a good enough excuse to blame our passing problems. I think that once we get a better passer in there, we're going to complete more balls. Windy or not. I'm not dogging on TA with this statement, or saying that a run game isn't important (that would be foolish). I just think that things will change for the better when we have someone back there can deliver in the pocket more with more consistence.
Who said anything about not being able to run the ball? I thought this thread was bout how we have to run 100% of the time because Memorial stadium is the only place on the planet with 100mph wind every game.
I agree. I'm the one that said TA wasn't a consistent or accurate passer above, but you lose everything when you compare anything we have to the best of the best at the pro level. If you want to say the wind isn't a factor, you could have simply pointed out that in each of the last 2 games, both opposing QB's had significant higher completion percentages with the same wind (and arguably worse receivers).
That's for sure. Especially on the worse receivers part. It's been almost criminal to have the talent at WR we've had over the last few years and not have a QB that can hit them.
My desire to see the Huskers run the ball more has nothing to do with weather, or tradition, or TO's blueprint for success. I just don't think they have the personnel right now, especially at QB, to beat many (or perhaps any) good opponents with an offense that's this pass-heavy. While it's true that this staff inherited a crappy O-line and an unproven stable of RBs, I still believe they would have a better chance at salvaging some wins this season with a balanced offensive game plan, as opposed to what we've watched over the past few weeks. And if NU can't develop a great running game, at least try to be competent enough at running the ball that you can finish a drive once in a while or pick up a first down when you need to protect a lead.

Championship football = run game that wears teams out and can take over late in games, and pass game that is good enough to punish teams for selling out against the run and keep them honest. Sometimes a truly balanced offense.
Look at Bama and Ohio State. Run-first teams that can also pass well. Yeldon, Lacy, Ingram all playing in the NFL. Richardson was an NFL bust but a college beast. Carlos Hyde starting in the NFL. Elliot will be in the NFL next year. Florida under Meyer, run-first team.

Or was it insufficient that I already pointed out that Ohio State and Alabama, who have won 4 of the last 5 titles, are run-first teams? The fifth team, Florida State, had a couple of RBs you may have heard of lately...Devonta Freeman and Karlos Williams, both in the NFL. They averaged over 200 rushing yards per game as a team.
Should we continue this amazingly stupid argument some more, or did somebody want to shift it to suggesting that you don't need a good defense to win a title?
I don't remember anyone arguing with you. The conversation was about throwing the football in bad weather and you got fired up about someone (I have no idea who) arguing that you need to be pass first to win a title. I never said that, I have no idea who did. Should've led with Florida, that's definitely a team that won it all with mediocre passing. Any they actually did it this century.
All great offenses. I like a mobile QB, I'm just not sure I want a run first guy. I'd love to see a power run/option attack, I'd also love the air raid haha. I'd just like to see NU have a consistent offensive system again, no matter what it is. I'm over the multiple stuff. If we're going option, I wish they'd go 100%, if we're going pro style, I wish they'd go 100%. I don't know. Deep Thoughts on this Tuesday morning.
