247 Sports is reporting on a survey of the top recruits this year. The question was: "Who has the most annoying fans on Twitter?"

By a very wide margin Nebraska fans were rated as the most annoying. We got 10 votes. The next highest were Michigan and Texas, with five votes each.

Lol. I know this is not a "scientific poll" but it does add weight to the argument that no fan should ever be tweeting recruits. Just my humble opinion.

Edit: Truehuskerfan points out below that we were actually tied with Tennessee for #1. The original article made no mention of Tennessee. It was edited and reposted

I won't name names but someone on here was boasting the other day about how he tweeted Jamire Calvin after his announcement to tell him how he screwed up. Why?

You got to be kidding me. The maturity level of some people is fascinating. There should be a study on the psychology of the middle-age tweeter or the internet troll. Was this poster called out?

i called him out, but he told me not to worry b/c I have no idea what he's done for our program. sounds legit.

I've got a early 20's niece who post gibberish on Twitter. We're trying to get her to understand that this stuff will follow you as you get older. I follow her, but rarely log into Twitter.

We have a WAY larger footprint in social media than any school at our "punching weight" aka not Alabama, Texas, Ohio St, Michigan.....probably a few others. That is why Lincoln is a fish bowl - it ultimately is a good thing for the program, but I am sure we come off as asshats when you lambaste recruits on their twitter accounts or criticize them on a public message board. Others fans do it - we do it in volume.

My daughter used to work in the UNL ticket office. She quickly tired of dealing with The Greatest Fans in College Football. The last straw was the cancellation of the spring game three years ago due to all of those pesky tornados in the area. Hundreds of irate fans lined up at the ticket windows demanding RIGHT NOW that they be reimbursed their five whole dollars. They called the ticket personnel every name in the book.

Farmers west of Lincoln finding out about the internet was not a good thing. Donte had to explain to these blue-hairs that #moneyteam is a song lol. Embarrassing.
The worst is Brett Baker, yelling "get off my lawn" at every post put out by Nebraska Football (including Coach Williams).

A lot of our "classy fans" are a bunch of total d bags. I got called a dumb f*** and other fantastic things on facebook the other day because I was a bit skeptical of Diaco. Clowns were acting like a bunch of Iowa assholes

I thinks its a little weird going to all the Calabasas games out here...1 its not easy to actually do , 2 if you dont have a kid on the team sure go to a game but all of them is too much.

Same people that stand in line for 5 hours for a 3 dollar free hat at Husker night in KC.

This is more explanation than excuse. I think a lot of young people these days think that because someone tweets at ya, responds on facebook, etc. that somehow this person is now a "friend". I don't understand the thought process personally. And to me it seems like self promoted stalking.

Now if you're an adult and you're doing this kind of stuff, you should know better.

Thanks for the heads up. Contrary to popular opinion, I don't read every comment. That poster is creepy at best. He actually believes he has a relationship with these kids. The fact that he sees nothing wrong shows a detach from reality. Didn't rick924 have similar problems separating online from the real world?

Forgot about that guy. There's an awesomely bad blast from the past!

While I totally agree that no one should be tweeting at recruits I do find it hilarious when these high school guys complain about fans tweeting at them. Same recruits who all but beg for people to follow them and constantly tweet things at every fan base making them believe they are coming to their school. Doesn't justify the troll tweeting from some fans but how these kids don't expect it is beyond me.

So, by virtue of Tennessee's recent victory over Nebraska, that makes them the true #1, right? :)

I get what you're saying, but you set a little lower bar for a 16-17 year old. These dues in their 30s and 40s tweeting at high school kids...that's embarrassing.

It's totally embarrassing, never said it wasn't. I just think that these kids should expect the crazies to come out when they act like that.

Just to correct the results, we were actually tied with Tennessee for the top spot.

There were 2 articles written and polls taken on this. One had Nebraska at like 10th for oveall annoyning "social media" fans and the other article had Nebraska as the clear favorite for most annoying "twitter" fans with 10 votes.

Note that one of the authors pointed out that all the top 10 were blueblood fan bases with large and very passionate fanbases.
