We will learn next to nothing about this team over the next three weeks. It won't be until the Wisconsin and Ohio State matchups that we learn anything at all about whether or not this program is progressing. Glad the NFL is up-an-running.

Potential trap game at Illinois. We are on a short week since it is Friday and we have Wisconsin on the Horizon. Illinois is off the week before so have 13 days to prepare for us.

I think these games are going to be closer than we want. I actually feel good about Wisconsin, but these games worry me.

Agreed. I can't remember the last season that we cleared the bench in the third quarter during nonconference games. In recent years we can't even get many snaps for our #2 qb. Why would the next three games be anything but close?

Northern Illinois better worry us. Another team with nothing to lose with D-1 scholarship athletes.

I will be surprised if we start 4-1. Outside of next week every game looks losable. I don't know why anyone thought Riley was going to work here, he is looking a lot like he did at Oregon State.

I think we will learn a little. Can the defense play more consistent. Can we somehow generate a pass rush. I really hope we arent holding much back for Wisconsin. A few new wrinkles sure, but we arent good enough to just show up and play it safe.

Can our o line play with consistancy? Can we find a 2nd RB?

Regardless of how we've played the past two weeks, I see us winning the next three games. C'mon...we're f-ing Nebraska.

The problem is then we will be lulled into this "see, they just needed some time to gel" and then we lose the next two including at least one blowout.

7-5 here we come. Another ho-hum season. Rinse, lather, repeat.

Then predict the loss. Easy to say generic stuff. Which game will they lose, where is the matchup that will give them the most trouble. Which of the three teams on schedule will beat Nebraska?

Northern Illinois
Rutgers
Illinois

I thought my gel comment was witty, ok perhaps develop would be a better word?

oregon will lose several games this year and probably finish unranked. so there are just a couple games out of the entire schedule against ranked opponents. I don't think Wisky is as good as usual either.
you wouldn't have to be a great team to win most of the games on this schedule. the division looks bad again and even OSU got trampled

uhhhhhhh ok.

Not sure that is at all related to my question, so I don't know why you quoted me.

Have to think we will beat them because Illinois is still pretty average but right now we would probably be a 6-7 point favorite in Champaign. That game may not be a cake walk unfortunately.

What We'll learn is if we are getting better by how much we beat these teams.

And not have any close calls.

Purdue may finally have a coach that helps them. Rutgers will only improve with Jerry Kill at OC. I think he is a fairly good coach. Snyder-like. Maryland has looked better. Illinois I think is in trouble with the Lovie Smith hire. Indiana could be better. I am going out on a rock and say no team in the Big Ten will go undefeated this year. More importantly I don't think Nebraska can disregard ANY opponent this year.

Under this regime there's no such thing as a "gimme". I would love for the team to be 4-1, but that's far from a given based on what we've seen so far. So yeah, I think there's much that can be learned over the next three weeks.

I don't know much about NIU but a quick recap of their season so far leads me to believe they will be a good test for you guys to iron some things out. They will be good enough to expose any struggles and give you more tape but shouldn't make you too stressed. FWIW it also looks like those field goal kicker is horrible. He hit the crossbar against BC to miss over time and had a 39 and 30 yarder blocked this weekend. They also seem to commit ALOT of penalties. Good chance to get the o back on 8 cylinders and get the d some confidence and more game tape.

Out of those 3 teams, I think NIU has the best chance against us.

We shouldn't take any team lightly anymore. That said, Northern Illinois is not very good. Rutgers is absolute garbage. Illinois sucks too, but losing to them on a Friday road game wouldn't be as bad as losing to Rutgers or NIU. Actually it probably would be, but Illinois is better than Rutgers from what I've seen so far. Anything less than 4-1 after the next 3 games would be totally unacceptable IMO.

Again easy to say. The guy I quoted originally wrote he would be surprised if we were 4-1 going into the Wisconsin game. Saying a team has a shot is not the same as being surprised to win them all.

Amen.
