10 charged in corruption and fraud case, including NCAA basketball coaches (somehow the head coaches seem to dodge the bullet.)

I think this is a much bigger issue than these 10 guys and I hope they will get to the bottom of it. All major sports have some shady recruiting practices, but it seems basketball is the worst.

I think this whole system of the "really good assistant recruiters" is even code for "we know you do shady things, but you're a layer removed from me so I'll look the other way.

I'll boldly predict that none of the big-name head coaches that these assistants work for knew anything about anything, and they'll probably have to sit down and fan themselves when they discover that corruption is happening in the sport they love so dearly.

I wasn't aware of this, but I'd suggest it hasn't changed behavior. Now they just demand that their shady assistants are really good at removing their fingerprint. Let's see what happens as some of these schools are pretty prominent. In particular, Louisville and Rick Pitino.
Baylor basically allowed systematic rape of college girls... and they are still playing football on Saturdays. Nothing will happen to Pitino or Louisville. (Only way it does is because the FBI is involved)

You will know the NCAA is serious about cleaning up college basketball when something happens to Kentucky. Until then it is all lip service.

when was the last time the FBI showed up, everyone knew they were investigating, and nothing really came of it? If the FBI shows up somebody is getting their ass thrown in prison. If nothing happened then people wouldn't be scared of the FBI. The FBI is undefeated in getting people to crap their pants. I say their streak continues!

Do you suppose Nebrasketball and TM will be in trouble since it has picked up the recruiting and the Huskers are associated with Addidas?

Louisville is screwed. And if anyone bothers to look at their football program they'll find dirt

Yes, their AD is probably knee deep into this scandal. I don't doubt for a minute that their football team is also involved.

Anyone think this is also done for football. Losing a silent commit to Louisville in 2016 (Desmond Fitzpatrick) really makes you wonder doesn't it? Everyone thinks we lost Manuel Allen because of the video of him starting a brawl. Doesn't make a lot of sense with either of those two recruits in the abruptness of both players

There is little doubt there are football coaches funneling money as well. They're just hard to catch because I don't think the shoe money is as prevalent for football players as it is for basketball players. It's also nearly impossible to track finances that are changing hands from a booster to a player's uncle. This whole event was made possible because of witnesses turning on each other, wire taps, etc. - things that the NCAA has no ability to deploy.

Some coaches can turn around programs because they are really smart and great motivators. Others do it because they can get talent to join them. The ones who turn program after program around due to their ability to draw talent are the ones inquisitive minds should be investigating.

I posted about a friend of mine who knew one of the top, players in HS, and it came down to Duke, Kansas and Kentucky for his services. This was like 4 yrs ago. The kid announced for Duke and he told me 350-500k from Nike is what made the deal happen. He sent me a text today saying I told you. He had another buddy who played ball for New Mexico, I think, still receiving all types of Nike gear, 20 yrs after playing. Nike sent him a note the everything will stop until this dies down.

Wow. This doesn't surprise me a bit. The fact that the FBI announced that NIKE was going to get subpoenaed today gave me chills. And of course, Nike's marketing director had "no comment." Small is the new big. Being big is so vulnerable now because everyone's watching. It's never been a better time to be small in business.

Jabari Parker, ring a bell. Also the brand manager for Addidas in this situation was Louiville's AD's daughter. As far as football, there is serious cheating but to this level, BB wins with 2-3 studs, FB takes more players but don't be surprised that BAma and OSU get caught in this mess, just my opinion.

Wait to see what happens in Kentucky and Kansas. This is going to be real fun to watch.
