I was at the Spring game and have watched the replay a few times. I noticed some things that I really liked and thanks to @Frontrunner's analysis, I picked up on a couple more. Here are some of the things I liked.
The blocking was outstanding on the draw plays. The line really opened up the middle. On Newby's long run up the middle, Luke McNitt took out the only LBer who had a chance at making a play with a beautiful block.
Marcus Newby, playing with a bum knee, ran the other Newby down from behind after missing him initially. The guy has some serious wheels.
Speaking of speed, Tommy looks to have gotten a little faster in the off season. He out ran some speedy dbs on his long TD run.
While Ryker Fyfe made a couple sophomoric plays (losing five yards by running out of bounds instead of tossing the ball away and not throwing to a couple of open receivers), he quietly completed 71% of his passes. His move on Avery Anderson was a thing of beauty.
The Davis Twins and Freedom are going to wreak havoc. Their speed and athleticism is way ahead of anything we had last year.
Mo Barry may be the most instinctive LBer we've had since LaVonte David. He's not of that caliber yet but he shows a lot of promise.
Alex Davis is coming along. He's not there yet but he's getting there.
Our DBs were not beaten consistently for long balls. The only time I saw that was when Reilly had a step or two on the first play of the game. Avery Anderson is a hitter.
Our coaching staff showed the ability to modify the playbook to better suit our weapons.
