These games should be on Saturday every year

All I know is that these have been 2 of the best playoff games that I have seen in the CFB playoff era. Hopefully the natty game is as good.

I’m worried when we go to a 12 team playoff it will be all 2nd and 3rd stringers by the time we get to the championship, so many injuries of key players. It really identifies who is the best team because many of the best players are on the sidelines with crutches , ice, or tee-shirts. When we go to the 12 team playoff I hope they cut at least 1 game out of the regular season.

The playoff format looks like this, starting in 2024-25:
  • First-round games (seeds 5-12) played on Friday/Saturday two weeks after conference championship games. In 2024-25, that's Dec. 20-21.
  • Quarterfinals on New Year's Day. In 2024-25, that's Sugar, Rose, Fiesta and Peach. That will feel a lot like the good old days, for sure.
  • Semifinals on the second Saturday after New Year's Day. In 2024-2025, that's Saturday, Jan. 11. Cotton and Orange Bowls.
  • The title game will be Monday night, Jan. 20. In Atlanta.
That's a lot of games on Saturdays. I love the re-emphasis on significant games on New Year's Day, too.

True it's why I think we need to remove conference championship games entirely. I think we may see 2 or maybe even 3 bye weeks put into the schedule instead of a removal of a regular season game. I expect week 0 to be like mid-August in the next few years and week 0 to basically be week 1 for everyone.

On a side note all non national title games of the playoff need to move to the higher seeds home stadium.

Personally, I'd like to see just as many games, but fewer plays per game.

To do that, you'd have to change the timing of the game, particularly dealing with incomplete forward passes. Specifically, if an incomplete pass is thrown, it should have the same timing rule as a run out of bounds. Get the ball back to the line of scrimmage and start the clock when it's ready for play. Of course, under two minutes, both out-of-bounds runs and incomplete passes could be automatic clock-stoppers until the next snap if you want to keep that.

If you can reduce the number of snaps per game from 150 to 135 (10 percent), then there's no need to reduce the number of games, though I'd also be in favor of eliminating conference title games and just crowning regular-season champs — as it was pre-1992 and the SEC's introduction of the title game.
