College Basketball Crown

I am really concerned that playing in this tournament will take away from our potential transfer haul. Hoiberg even said that they will need to balance preparation for the Crown and finding players. The transfer window is from March 24 to April 22. This tournament is from March 31 to April 6. It will be two weeks before we even play a game.

To me, the number one reason we didn’t make the tournament was lack of talent. Not coaching, not lack of toughness. Our entire focus should be upgrading talent, not playing a 13-19 team in a meaningless game.

Guaranteed one-and-done for the Huskers. Don't ever apply logic and records and think that Hoiberg has the edge. Yes, I'm still pissed off.

And they've lost 11 of their last 12 games.

I would think that many of these teams will have several players that enter the transfer portal between now and the beginning of the tournament. I wonder if some will even be able to field a team by then.
I heard that you have to have at least 7 scholarship players on the team to participate in this tournament.

Whew.... for a second there I thought you said 7 scholarship WORTHY players. Thought we might be in a bind.

Arizona State is paper-thin, but if their starting five are healthy and decide to play, they are very talented.

Fred should slip each of them his business card.

The way Nebraska (mens) sports work, I won't be surprised if Nebraska does really well in this tourney. Followed of course by Nebraska triumphantly celebrating that success and the rest of the world laughing at us. We might as well wear shirts that say "kick me."

If you are mad about Nebraska playing in this tournament, I suggest you call it a season and don't watch or support. Spring football is about to kick off and we'll have plenty to be happy about, well most will be happy spring football is upon us. Not to throw gas on the fire but I guess it will, I remember a post a few years ago asking who would win a BIG Championship first and I believe Hoiberg led that one with posters, I wonder how that one goes now. Winking

This is an unbelieveably bad field. What the hell happened?

I'm assuming quite a few teams expect to have a lot of transfers and won't have enough left to field a team....and they want to focus on finding new players instead of spending the week in Vegas.

Don’t think this is playing out like the tournament directors thought it would when they came up with this tournament idea and format. Wouldn’t be surprised for it to be one and done.

They should have declined and focused on recruiting

I admittedly don't follow bball very closely, but I have literally never heard of this tournament

This is shaping up worse than even I anticipated. At 1st I thought we’d get bounced in the 1st round. Now that I’ve seen the field… I’m worried we’ll win this stupid tournament and give Fred more cover that he doesn’t deserve. Admin will probably give Fred a raise and hang a fvcking banner in the vault. Fvck my life…

I would prefer an invite to a tournament that doesn’t have 13-19 teams playing us but I get Nebraska fans are all about participation trophies nowadays

Well that wouldn't be the NIT either, because they have teams with losing records as well like San Jose State and Oklahoma State.

Yes I understand that the first 2 teams not in the NCAA from each Power 4 automatically goes to the Crown. NIT is now 3rd tier. It’s sad because they one really fun thing about NIT was the chance to host more games!
For those of us that remember that fantastic NIT run back in 1984, that tournament can be a lot of fun. I believe we hosted three straight home games in Devaney. Big crowds. Excitement kept building. The fans rushed onto the court after the third win and Sinatra's "New York" was playing over the speakers. Good times!

I remember it well and I did attend the game that we won to make to New York.

It’s a shame this tournament gets priority over the NIT. Almost half the teams have losing records.

The great thing about The Crown is that it's only 8 more days until any games are played. Our fellas should be fresh and extremely sharp after taking 3 weeks off. </end sarcasm font>

If the team came out with a chip on their shoulder and fire in their eyes, that would be great! I don’t see that happening. I see them laying a dud and Hoiberg using it as an excuse for not doing better in the portal.

A lot will depend on what kind of team ASU puts on the court. Some real talent on the Devils’ roster. But between injuries, suspensions and just not giving AF, they’ve been down to a handful of scholarship players.

From my memory it was 1996 when we won the NIT. Did they also make a run to the finals in 1984?

Sounds just like the Iowa game, every reason to be motivated and focused

It was 1996 when they won the NIT. It was 1985 and 1986 when Nebraska played in it’s first NCAA tournament.
I believe the 1984 team made it to the NIT semis in New York but lost in that round.

Correction: it was the 1983 team. Lost to DePaul.

Crown tournament. What an embarrassment and waste of time. But it’s ok we can reminisce about past NIT tourneys. That’s all the tradition and success NU has.
