The Support the Coach thread

Roll call? Present.

I will freak out if things don't appear to be on a positive trajectory this time next year. I promise to call for multiple firings and incarceration, if needed. Public flogging is on the table. Winking

Hmmm Not sure if I qualify or not. lol I don't see this staff doing good here. I am willing to give him into next year to start calling for head. I think if he did have a true shot at producing here we would be seeing some sort of progress. We are going backwards as the year goes.

could be rough, but i got nothing else to do, so i might as well get some thicker skin...

You have no choice but to support Riley and the staff unless you can write the buyout checks.

Firing a coach a year after firing a 9 win coach isn't going to attract quality candidates.

I'm in until I'm not in, then I am out 100%. I was 100% with Bo until the UCLA game in Lincoln, then I gave up. Obviously the last two games made my timeline on this staff much shorter than Bo got. Teams (in any sport or business) underperform due to underperforming rank and file, underperforming leadership, or both. I am of the mind the underperformance right now is 30% leadership and 70% rank and file. On the other hand, in my field really good leaders in one group move to other groups and are good there. Marginal leaders rarely move to other groups and are good leaders there. I guess I am confused about Nebraska football right now, just like many of us. HCMR and Eichorst aren't going anywhere for awhile, so I chose to support them for now.

I'm in. Have a lot of work to do, but I still think these guys can field some damn good teams in the future. There are WAY too many examples of coaches who stumble out of the gate and turn things around.

The people that really believe it would be in the best interest of Nebraska Football to fire these guys after 1 year don't understand how sports work.

I can support Riley but there was a reason why OSU AD told him he needed to make changes on the defensive side of the ball and find a replacement for Banker.

I've seen all I need to see. SE hired a mediocre coach, this is clear. I only hope that he doesn't leave a huge mess for the next guy.

Today was a real blow. What can you do? Got to give him at least 3-4 years. Just hope he can do something he has never done in a lifetime of coaching.

I don't know what to think anymore. I like the guy but I have little faith in his ability to build a program at this stage in his life. If he doesn't win at least 7 games next year and bring in a Top 20 recruiting class, I'm not sure how he can justify a third year.

I would love for Riley and his staff to do well. Unfortunately, after giving up 55 to a bad team, it appears he has hitched his wagon to a loser DC.

If Riley was a mediocre coach we wouldn't have to wonder if our players have checked out. Which they have, it's only because they've kicked it into cruise control that it's become totally apparent.

Someone had to start one. Let the love flow.
from my posts, obviously I'm siding with TFraz and The Jet. I'm N with Riley and can't wait to see what the product looks like with a full boat of D-1 linebackers and a QB and O linemen that fit their system better.

Damon said a little earlier this year, we are who we are. Week to week we aren't just going to wake up and then have a Top 35 pass D. We're going to play mostly the same types of games over and over until something dramatic changes, be it personnel or the injury situation or another off season to develop further.

Fans always hope that "this week is the week it all comes to fruition" but as Verzal said today, the games are won in the off season.

I do not see ONE area that is improved over last year. Except the punter, but he is a year older so not sure that is due to coaching. The apparent lack of basic strategic planning such as today (pass v. run with a 1st time starter, which has been beaten to death already) after a 20 year head coaching career shows that is not going to change.

Also, IMO the coaching profession is so competitive Nebraska will never have trouble getting quality candidates to apply.

I've seen absolutely nothing that's leads me to believe that we are going in the right direction. On the field, off the field, recruiting...... We are average to below average across the board....and dropping fast. Somebody convince me that the future is bright, because I'm not seeng it.

I'm in for the long haul. I don't like what I see, but there is a lot of stuff going on here this year; new schemes, injuries, misguided loyalties and questionable talent. I expected more this season.. I expect much more next. I'll start popping off big-time if these guys biff on the recruiting front this year. GBR!
