The Sporting News: It’s becoming ‘more and more possible’ Oklahoma State could fire Cowboys head football coach Mike Gundy

This is awesome:

"It's just on the bigger stage where people can voice their opinion, and in most cases, the people that are negative and voicing their opinion are the same one that can't pay their own bills,” Gundy said to reporters.

"They're not taking care of themselves. They're not taking care of their own family. They're not taking care of their own job. But they have an obligation to speak out and complain about others because it makes them feel better. But then, in the end, when they go to bed at night, they're the same failure that they were before they said anything negative about anybody else."

The Oklahoma State President issued a statement distancing the school from Gundy's statements. It's probably unlikely that Gundy will be fired after this year, even though his team is winless in a watered-down Big 12 conference. But he isn't helping his cause when the University President feels it necessary to publicly respond to his "offensive remarks."

He has had a good run, but it’s prolly time for a new voice in the room.
I don't know what that means on the collegiate or high school level. I get it on the NFL level, when you can have players that stay on a team for more that 4 years, but 99% of these players are there for only 3-5 years max.

The guy that wrote that article is a "freelance journalist" who graduated college in 2017, and LITERALLY THE ONLY SOURCE he cites as a basis for this article is another sports journalist who joined SI's online stuff in September, 2024. It'd be like me writing an article for the Beatrice newspaper saying Rhule is likely to get fired and my source is Bigboxes from the message board.

Trash.

Dear Weiberg, there is a new sheriff in town. A movement has spread across the prairie and it’s not slowing down. We are no longer hiding under our beds because some mean words were said. Harden up, Stop being such a pansy and just tell your coach to go out and win some games. Hard stop

one of the best retorts i've ever read. thank you.

gundy is 169-85/.667 winner. ferentz is 202-122/.623 winner. gundy has been to 18-straight bowls, ferentz 3.
He’s a fine coach, suitable for ordinary use but he’s not taking a team to the top of the mountain. He’s not even making it to the top of the hill in the Big 12.

If you’re looking for 8-4 and a Holiday Bowl, he’s your guy. Just like Ferentz.

Sad thing is he's probably right. Unfortunately you just can't say that....

He's not wrong. Just aren't supposed to say that

They have money at Oklahoma State, just not that kind of money. The amount you need to get to the playoff. You need all kinds of consultants and analysts. A huge NIL program. I don’t think they have enough to do all of that.

If Boone Pickens would still be alive they probably would. But I think the family hasn’t been as generous with Okie lite as Boone was.

If he gets fired, which he won't, it sounds like he could get a job in the new administration. Gundy is a character and survivor: new assistants, more NIL$, and he will rock that mullet yet again. OSU wins at least 9 next year.

Oklahoma State is having a disastrous season and Gundy had to apologize for what he said about fans who are criticizing him.

The Sporting News
Those comments are asinine. OSU fans were supportive of him when he screamed at the female student reporter years ago, but apparently not so much when he's going on the fans themselves.

I don’t think she was a student reporter. I thought she was on staff at the Oklahoman. She wrote an article about a backup quarterback, who had a lot of talent and should’ve been the starter. The story included that after a game he was eating chicken that his mother had bought him. The implication was that he wasn’t tough enough to reach his potential. Gundy lost it on the podium, saying she shouldn’t have attacked the player as he was “a good kid“, but he was a man he’s 40 and she should come after him (Gundy). It was kind of stupid. of course Bo did the same thing without the I’m a man I’m 40 deal about Taylor Martinez.

Gundy has been a pretty good coach for OSU for many years, and he played for them. A true cowboy, so to speak. But I wouldn’t be surprised that we have seen his peak, and it may not be as good going forward.

He was literally 3 inches away from being in the 4 team playoff. He WASNT, but much closer than Ferentz has ever been.
I'm gonna say something and I'm completely serious.
Idiots out walking around in the media and the state are convinced he ends up in the hall of fame.
THERE NEEDS TO BE A MOVEMENT TO STOP THIS. I'm serious (as noted earlier). This BLUE PARTICIPATION RIBBON crap has to stop !!!!!!!!

I haven't followed Okie St enough to speculate on the changes needed there, but maybe going back to things that worked in the past would be a good start.
