The option is a dumb offense. Only bad coaches use it

I just realized it is very poor coaching to have a qb and rb BOTH running down the line of scrimmage toward the sideline. You people need to be aware of this. Also, an out and up route, out route, fade, or back shoulder is just plain stupidity.

I agree, seems silly that anyone would design a play to go anywhere but up the middle. Way to much chance of going out of bounds if your near the sidelines.

Was this s drunk post?

I don't need to ramble. Option football is not the answer for any team to win NCs or even consistent conf titles. in Div I. See GT as if I were to run option, PJ would be my guy..but without taking advantage of the great passing rules and so many more good QBs throwing in HS. option is not wise

Anyone that says Jerry Kill isn't a Good Coach (463) Has no business lecturing us about option football.

Like he is a real football coach.

Maybe it wasn't funny, but that makes this thread awesome. Double rarely dissapoints. Well done, op....well done.

Right coach, right players, any system will work. If you disagree, you are wrong.

Check out the level of derp in the "it was a bad call" thread. After a win against a top 10 team, it is confirmed that a segment of our fan base will not be happy if this staff would somehow manage to win a National title. It is really sad. They have gone from "I support the coaches" to "I support these playerw who the fans and coaches have caused to purposely lose games". So sad.

But I coach midget football, that makes me an expert.

I am thinking that you missed the sarcasm in his post about Kill the other day.

Let him go, he's on another roll. Only a matter of time before he brings up the color of a college kids uniform effecting the outcome of games.

Huskerlife39.....how in the hell is this thread not funny? I Nominate that duded for POTW. He is either the author of the greatest troll of the week......or a giant dumbass. I just can't figure out which yet.

Thanks, kaz. I already read the entirety of that thread in all of its glory......but you needed to link that for everyone else to see. That thread has potential to be a classic.

The option is mostly now an ineffective offense. Modern defenses are generally fast enough to handle. Even teams like Minnesota generally have more speed these days. I believe in a power football running game. With toss sweeps and Iso's and counters. And play action. You've heard of those haven't you?

Gee ... the toss sweep goes outside. Who knew?

I support not running that route, that way ... derp.

You mean the way that got single coverage, with the player they wanted to be singled on, that won the game? Ok, you're the expert

But only if it is correctly run, like how Forrest Gump ran the ball. In beautiful, perfect right angles.

Is that all you have? Is that all the Huskers have?

As always you can't figure out what Tradition is all about.... But you wouldn't know not growing up in the Devaney era.
The outcome speaks for it self.

What the hell are you talking about? They went 90 plus yards in 4 plays and had to get into the end zone! And your derpiness wants them to run a pattern to the middle of the field with more defenders? Seriously, get down to practice and explain to them how it was stupid to get a 1 on 1 with a 3rd string freshman corner, who allowed the game winning touchdown.

That's your version of tradition. Alot of stuff happened before you came along, and alot after (like the wheel being invented). If things never changed the Huskers would not even be the nickname. You really are precious.

I tell you what. Let's step back until someone can quote the exact rule. It seems to me that the intent of the rule should be with the receiver a reasonable distance from the sideline.

I told you exactly what it is, and has been talked about all over. It is not my problem you choose to be ignorant. Good luck going on blissfully uninformed

He took about a 20 degree angle toward the sideline ... and made it. Did he think he was going to outrun the CB and actually get by him?

If you want to get technical, the original intent of the rule is for someone to not come running on the field from the sidelines.
