The Official Spring Game Thread

Contrast this with the defense, who after losing a lot of guys, showed up, looked good, played as a unit, and it seems Chins has those guys ready to play again, even with major changes in personnel.

It's hard not to contrast how those 2 squads look miles apart once again.
This is my overall take on the 2022 Spring Game. It is too bad when Frost is let go next December we can't keep Chins, Ruud, and Fish.

yeah, it's probably not fair to judge too harsh since it was no contact and guys are out.. BUT STILL... this wasn't the time to be worried about injuries and to actually evaluate some guys in a mock game like situation. At least that is what I would look at it like from a coaching perspective. To me, it wasn't an evaluation at all, more like a dog and pony show. At least the second half started to look more like football.

I thought we were potentially a 9 win team from all the hype lately, but that's now out the window for me. It will probably be a dogfight to get to bowl eligibility this year..

I thought one of the quotes out of CT was interesting, where he said the coaches were telling him to just focus on what he's doing and basically let the other coaches worry about the other players. I didn't make it through his interview.. can't stand listening to him.

I think it's okay to have an opinion.. but as some others have pointed out, the format wasn't great (due to injuries) and not being able to run 2 full teams. Which I think is garbage as well. We have how many walkons and you can't run 2 teams?

It just felt like Frostism's again. Being too secretive whether that is not running any good plays or possibly hiding guys injuries and general weirdness on offense again.

I think they go 5-1 the first half of the schedule and 1-5 down the stretch. 6-6. If NU beats either Purdue or Minnesota might be 7-5.

I'll take either and throw in a bowl game for the players. Frosty no gonna make it happen.

We were 8th in scoring defense in the big 10. If we drop off from that not sure there will be tears

I was thinking Callahan ran a fun spring game in 2006. If I remember correctly the just put the starters against the rest of the bunch and let Zac Taylor put up Nintendo numbers on them. I mean it didn’t help the team any that day, but it was fun for the crowd, so since they aren’t really evaluating things that much anyways, why not go that route again???
Hell Joe Daly had like 500 yards in his first spring game under Callahan........

I think we can all agree that the best part of the spring game is that it is over and time to move on. No need to worry about the 2022 season at this point. Life is too short and it will get here soon enough.

i spilled my Kool-Aid watching the game. The idea the game has become a gimmick is ridiculous. People can argued that there’s no point in going hard due to risk of injury, but why have spring ball at all with that logic? They do scrimmage during the spring. They die hit during the spring. So to say that for the spring game is BS. The one thing the coaches don’t get to see in practice is “can they do it with the spot light on”?

I feel like Scott is scared. Doesn’t want to show any bit of his hand, not because he’s got aces but because he knows he has shit.

He can play the “doesn’t want show Pat Fitz anything on tape” game but we’ve been hearing these excuses for years. Maybe just maybe he doesn’t want Nebraska beat writers or fans to make it a hard summer on him and the staff. Because when he doesn’t show a dam thing in spring ball, he’s only doing it for the first game of the year and we see how well that helped him last season.
I was just putting out general sentiment on injury risk.
My own personal opinion, as is known far too well by this board and formerly the RSS board is that Frost sucks, the way we practice sucks, the no hitting bullshit sucks and it will all lead us to a suck ass season as usual under Frost.
I know we can’t take away too much from a spring game, but damn, this program is literally circling the shitter so Alberts better have the balls to fire this clown.

And if I hear one more fvcktard say we need to stop the “cycle” of firing coaches every few years I am going to punch him in the face through the computer.
We gave Solich several years, he won’t quite a bit, won the conference, reached a national title game… and canned him. Cally got 4 years, including 2 winning seasons and we canned him. Nutjob Pelini was an effin asshole but won 9-10 for 7 years and we canned him. Riley won a bowl game, then won 9, and then was fired after three games into just his third season(for all intents and purposes), and we canned him.
Now Frost can’t even win 40% of his games and we look like shit and he is getting a fifth year and the fvcktards want to stop with the firing? That’s the dumbest thing ever. If you want to stop the firing, don’t pick the worst coach in history to be the guy you keep.

I see why Brant Banks hasn't been a factor. He can barely get a hand on the pass rusher.
His drop step is tiny. Even worse, he's slow to get his balance set after. They better get some transfer portal or something...doesn't matter who the QB is, they are going to have a broken back after a series.

I wonder how much control Whipple actually has of thr offense. I gave a sinking feeling that Frost, due to his stupid ego, is going to keep his shitty old offense in no matter what and just let Whipple "call plays"

We will know when our QB is f*cking wrecked a couple games in and we will still call QB runs as they limp around.

At least we will be done with it after this season if it is more of the same, I don't see anyone giving Frost any favor anymore.

Prochazka should be back, shouldn't he? A guy who actually looks like he has some talent. Gotta hope he stays healthy this year.

Did anyone tailgate for the game, how was that?

Me and my friends just hit up the bars before/after. Saw some tailgates set up.

Recap of @SuperBigFan Saturday

I had a great weekend, went and got drunk at 11 am, watched a touch football practice, then went and drank some more after watching the practice. Some dude at the bar spilled a drink on my high school letter jacket. I was so pissed that I challenged him to meet me in the parking lot, he didn't show. So me and my friends went to another bar.

Nice try...

I lost my high school letter jacket years ago...

The rest is pretty much spot on though.

Very strong arm. Big kid and athletic. Still a project. Whipple at least has something physically to work with. He might never take a meaningful snap. Synek might pass him on the depth chart. That kid looks good against the lower unit D.
good call!

Nailed it

Well done sir!
My nailed it comment was actually directed at Husker Drew’s prediction but thanks. Just proves in my case that if the village idiot throws enough sh## at the wall something will probably stick. You don’t put up those kind of numbers in class A ball though if you’re not a good QB.

One thing about it dingle, you have opinions and you express them. There will always be a handful, or more than disagree. It hasn't slowed you down yet.

You always seem to have a basis for believing as you do, some of us can see it, but others never will. This is an opinion forum and once in a while, a projection plays out like you thought it could.

Without having seen the kid, it appears he has been moving up the QB ladder pretty damn quickly. And at NU, that's not an easy thing to do.
