The Frost effect has turned many of our fans into pussies. 4 things that I've seen more than once on here that need to be exorcised out of our fanbase.
1 - Fans that are worried that Rhule is leaving. I've seen worried posts that Rhule could go to Penn St or Texas. He wants to be here, he chose to be here, his family wanted him to be here. He's well paid, gets along with Trev great and is doing what he loves to do. Everything he does is for the long term sustainability of a successful program. He's not looking to leave so stop worrying about it any time Franklin is talked about.
2 - Fans that are worried that White is going to leave. He probably will, sometime. Rhule develops coaches as well as players. He's said it and shown it in the past. The defensive success isn't all on White, it a collaborative effort with Rhule and the assistants. White likes it here, he had other offers and chose to be here and to coach under Rhule. This wasn't a one year thing, at least 3 years or he wouldn't have been brought in. He's having fun, enjoying his job and the people around him, it's easy to see during his press conferences. White loves coaching and likes doing it under Rhule and with these assistants. He isn't leaving for another DC job, he likes it here is well paid with a raise upcoming. He will most likely leave at some point for a HC job, but that is years down the road and a good thing.
3 - Fans that want 3 gimme nonconference games. Have some ****ing pride in the team and faith in the coaching staff. We don't need to schedule patsies to get wins, we are building a team that will get the job done. Yeah, we need 2 annually to get 7 home games. The last one should be a marquee game. A game that garners national attention, a game that excites players and fans a game that recruits want to visit for and dream of playing in. If we are relying on a third gimme game to get bowl eligible then we don't have the right HC. Schedule a game that matters if we want to be a team that matters.
4 - Fans that are worried about the new conference schedule. Frankly it isn't going to be any harder for us. Under the old schedule model cross division match ups favored marquee games. That's why we played tOSU, Michigan and Penn St more than Northwestern did. The conference wanted more big games to draw tv audiences and Nebraska even when we suck draws eyes. The new model isn't skewed like that. The new model has a protected rivalry against Iowa and then we play everyone else equally. We will have approximately the same number of game against top playoff contenders as we have had in the past. We will play everyone half the time, 2 to 3 times every 5 years. It will be about the same number of top teams annually, just different teams, instead of tOSU and Michigan 3 out of 5 years. There will be some tougher years depending on how teams trend and also some easier years, but it won't be significantly harder overall than what we have had.
Frost is gone, rearise the expectations. There will be some growth to get there, but Rhule is building a quality program. The shadow of Frost that effected the program for more than 5 years is gone. Quit being scared of losing coaches, Nebraska is a great spot for a coach to be. Quit being scared of opponents, they are opportunities to show what we can do and what we are about. The players were scared, they showed that against Michigan and Rhule immediately beat that out of them with a physical Sunday practice. It's time the fans stop being scared. Put out the flag, wear the hat and sweatshirt out in public. Be proud of who we are and enjoy the climb to national relevance. The coaches aren't scared, the players no longer are, it's time that the fans aren't.
