This class is shaping up to be an improvement over last year's.

This should be expected.

However, the staff does deserve praise considering the coaching changes and a vacancy. Considering that ALL momentum had left us in the final 2 games I will not scrutinize the prior coaches and their recruiting/coaching ability but the proof was there. Accountability has been established, excellence is to be demanded and expected in every part of the job. Familiarity and friendships can make the ride more enjoyable, help it, but should never be expected to give underperformance a free pass. The line has been drawn.

The current staff pulled this class off under those circumstances. Not many teams could do that. I don't think any team that isn't a yearly powerhouse could. We did though.

Back to the former coaches real quick, they did play their part and kept recruits on board and kept our name out there. They deserve our gratitude.

To The Future

Look what we did with what we had. Look at this potential top 20 class. Again, we did this with one coaching spot open and 2 new coaches on defense. At the same time we have 2 new proven recruiters...great hires. Big time hires. We can potentially be 3 for 3 with hires on defense in regards to recruiting.

Make no mistake, the Xs and Os will not be ignored...that too will be an upgrade.

But now is the time to get excited. We did some major upgrading with hires. We hauled in a top 20 class. The staff is being held accountable. The new coaches are going to have a whole year to build relationships with kids, to create that scarlet spark in their eyes. That will happen.

This is the class that vaults us to the future. The momentum from this class will propel us to a top 15 finish next year and so on. It can be done and it will be done.

With those kind of classes and these coaches, anything is possible. Dream big baby...dream bigger.

I will be to first to say that the effort was there for sure, but the results were only marginally better. I'll take it!

I am on record saying if I saw Keith or Donte Williams at a restaurant I'd buy them dinner and drinks. I'd still do it, because I know the effort was there even though we came up short.

I love every recruit we got, and am extremely happy with all 20!

I said about a month ago that I would be content if we finish in the 18-22 range... according to 247 we are number 23, but I am still content. I would have been excited if we managed to be over 18

I am just in shock over the whole Calvin thing... Not that I think we needed him, but I just wish our coaches would have moved on before this flip happened. Also very confused on the Onyemaobi to TCU thing too... We get them and we are above 18 in the rankings.

Overall I give the class a B for coming up 2 short

Or just use the Scout rankings or the Rivals rankings, where Nebraska ranked 18 and 20, and you can just be content.

Always someone who has to use the lowest ranking to justify their disappointment.

But I was told a class size of 20 was no way to build depth.

20 is enough if the majority of them see the field. That was the issue with the last regime and the small class sizes.

And next year we could very well jump another 5-6 spots in recruiting as we did this year. Recruiting improved this year and last season was an improvement on the field as well.... Not much to complain about but some people will always find some way to try and $hit in the punch bowl.
