How many teams make the College Football Playoffs compared to other sports?

Football - 12 of 134 teams - 8.95%
Football (FCS) - 24 out of 129 teams - 18.60%
Football (NFL) - 14 out 32 teams - 43.75%
Men's Basketball - 68 out of 352 teams - 19.32%
Men's Baseball - 64 out of 300 teams - 21.33%
Women's Basketball - 68 out of 360 teams - 18.89%
Women's Volleyball - 64 out of 346 teams - 18.50%
Women's Softball - 64 out of 286 teams - 22.38%

Men's college football has the least amount of playoff teams of all the major sports. People would think of the playoffs completely different if bowl games didn't exist.

If anything yesterday showed me that we need fewer teams. Not a single close game.

Or their selection process needs to be changed.

Wrong numbers on Division 1 basketball 351 basketball teams 68 get in.
Quit comparing sports you moron..

The average margin of victory for the in the 1/2 vs 15/16 matchups in last year's March Madness was 29.4 points. We definitely need to get rid of the first two rounds andreduce March Madness to 16 teams. Not a single close game.

I'm using your logic to determine the numbers.

I can almost guarantee that st3fo has never put on a jock strap and competed not alone wear one for PE class..

Uh, that's not my logic.

Were all games in the entire first round of the Men's Basketball NCAA tournament blowouts?

I take it that you’re an Iowa fan?

we need to import refugees who can understand math and system.
they could help make a system were there are no bi teams, no polls, no opinions..
where everything is decided upon the gridiron, with a pigskin...
a systematic system where every game means something..

something like the nfl without preseason or wildcard games...
a world where math is supplied systematically and results in 1 true champion.
it can be done using logical absolutes...

may this clown show we have running college football pass....

Why do people insist on taking college football, the greatest sports category in existence, built on being unique. Built on having a regular season that matters. And try to change it into something that resembles a lesser sport? The nfl sucks. The nfl has 32 teams. The nfl has parity. Those things don’t exist in college football. There is no way to make college football resemble the nfl in format. And we shouldn’t want it to. The debates, controversy and flawed system have made college football what it is. Stop trying to change it and embrace it. Everything they’ve done has made it worse. 12 teams is stupid. Oregon already beat Ohio State, Penn state and Boise. Georgia already beat Texas. End this. Give us Georgia vs Oregon, winner take all. Make the regular season great again.

here's an example:

lets say we have 80 teams
20 teams in each of the 4 conference's
2 divisions of 10 teams in each conference
then everyone plays everyone in their division...
the team winning that division goes to a conference champ game
the team who wins the conferance champ game goes to a 4 team play off

did the team in question win their 9 games in their devision? 9 games
did they win the conferance champ game? 1 game
did they win the 2 playoff games? 2 games
the 12-0 team would be champion

no stankey,
no disney,
no polls,
just gridiron and pigskin, as it should be...

(you can throw 2 preseason games in and bowls for the runner ups)

Holy Crap Batman.

We need the B10 and SEC to simply be a separate league like the AFC and NFC.

24 or so teams each. Dissolve the shitshows that are the ACC and B12 into the 2 super powers.

Playoffs? We don't need no stinking playoffs. Division winners in a natural Final Four is all that is needed.

Agree with a lot of this.

Unfortunately Pandora's Box has been opened. Playoff dorks will never let go back.

The B10 and SEC are aligning to make it a 2 conference division anyway like the NFL. Give it a few years, and it will happen.

I never heard the nfc whine that they should get more teams in the playoffs...again, systematic math defined / logical absolutes applied / gridiron + pig skin + score board speaks..

not greg stankey, not disney, not polls with opinions

Well the NFL should have never expanded to a 12 team playoff format.

9-7 teams should never be playing for and winning Super Bowls.

NO! There’s too many teams in it already.

most years, college football only needs two teams. Oregon vs Georgia is all we needed this year.
Disagree. OSU lost by 1 on the road to Oregon. I think OSU should be favored over Oregon ever so slightly on a neutral field. OSU played all the top teams in the Big Ten whereas Oregon just faced OSU at home and PSU on neutral site.

Having a 4 to 8 team playoff still keeps it different than the NFL and maintains the importance of the regular season.

Ohio state already lost to Oregon. Why do they get another shot? If you’re better, win the first time. Rematches in college football are stupid. Who did Ohio state play that Oregon didn’t? Indiana? Pft. Who cares? Make the regular season matter. They already played. Oregon won. You shouldn’t get a do over. Add to that Oregon is undefeated. Beat 3 quarter final teams. And Ohio state lost to Michigan. They blew it. I don’t care who would be favored in a single game. I care about who showed up every week and handled their business. Oregon did. Ohio state didn’t. This system of 12 teams does little to reward that.

We don't even need Oregon vs Georgia. All we needed was the bowl tie ins and polls and Oregon probably gets crowned in both.

There's only one way to make this resemble the NFL in format. The Big Ten and SEC are going to kill the other 2 conferences and go to 24 teams each leaving everyone else out. That will be the final nail. Say what you want about ratings, but you won't have fans from other schools tuning in to watch that BS.

Just give Oregon the title then. Why does a 2 loss Georgia get a shot while a 1 loss ND doesn't? Or the 6 other 1-2 loss teams who hadn't lost to either George or Oregon?

12 was stupid but it was clearly just to "get it started"

These first round games were amazing even though they sucked. They are going to go to 16, it is going to be ****ing awesome and it is going to become a huge gambling thing like March Madness.

Ideally, you’re right. Unfortunately we don’t have two undefeated teams this year. So, next best is Georgia. They’re ranked second. They won the sec. And didn’t lose to a G5 school
